I wanted two new maps for the year 2017. Just speaking my mind.

In terms of mechs I think the IS could use a solid 80 ton assault that is NOT a massive barn door target like the Zeus. That thing needs a re scale so badly it hurts.

For clan I'd like to see a 55 ton mech that uses both endo and ferro. The stormcrow is great but I think it's time for an upgrade.

Sorry to say, but all of the IS 80 tonners are fat lumps. Well... all except the Hatamoto-Chi (the Weeb assault mech). The Legacy could get by because it is angled a bit, but its still quite wide.

Of course, the Epimetheus will never be released (Clan/IS tech).

There's also the Salamander and O-Bakemono, which are tubby, but in a different way than the typical IS 80 tonner.

IS 80 tonners?

Thug for the pre-3025 crowd
Legacy for the hill-humpers
Warlord for lovers of the BattleMaster (if we have a little time jump)
Doloire for MixTech and/or IS OmniMech lovers (and even bigger time jumps!)

Longbow for ballistic boats. (NAIS variant)

The IS are on a seriously bad run of mechs, while Clans have never let up with solid releases.

Hellspawn
Thanatos
Nightstar
Osiris
Uziel
Annihilator
Javelin
Roughneck
Assasin
Cyclops
Phoenix Hawk
Archer

Good lord. That is a 12 mech run, with very few well regarded chassis, and the 2 that aren't yet released are likely to flop into that same pile.

The Penetrator was the hero we deserved, but instead we got the Thanatos.

Check out the Jinggau though:

After the Alex Iglesias treatment, we might have a winner.

Penetrator is more laser vomit.. we don't need more laser vomit in the IS Heavy class if you ask me.

At least the Thanatos has the potential for dakka or AC/PPC with JJs and ECM...

Yeah, the Jinggau is easily my most wanted IS 65 tonner, closely followed by the Verfolger.

I mean, Cyclops and Assassin are pretty solid.

Assassin, Javelin, Roughneck are excellent mechs though. The Nightstar is actually better than most realize but oh well. Still, you want a mech that is similar to the Nightstar and you consider it a bad mech.

The Penetrator would be decent but the Dragon Fire, Toyama and Falconer would all be superior.

Considering the timeframe now in place, could use a melee four pack set of the Scarabus (30t / 3053), Hatchetman (45t / 3023), Axman (65t / 3048) and Berserker (100t / 3056) to cover each weight category.

Huh, I never noticed just how popular the 280 rated engine was in the 70 ton category.

Of those 4, I'd take the Daikyu for the look and guaranteed dual Ballistic options.

They are all from the 3025 era and 280 make sense if you have to build your Mech with introtech. Going from a STD 280 to a 350 requires 14.5 tons! The Mech you can build will be either undergunned or underarmoured, or both.
You need an XL engine. So the 70t cavalry Mechs are either advanced Star League designs/variants or post Helm core designs.

As far as performance of the four - Excalibur, Thunder, Daikyu, and Hercules - is concerned, I'd e hard pressed to make a decision.
Just don't underestimate the Excalibur: the EXC-CS e.g. is a solid energy boat with seven energy HP before inflation, which is important for this kind of Mech. (The TSM would have to be dropped...). Looking at the variants, there are some interesting units even if some of them had to be adapted for MWO, including JJ (-D1) and ECM (hero).

Btw., there are also some Warhammer-variants with the 350: the Star League era WHM-6RK, and the later -9D and -10T.
Would be nice to get them...

The Thunder would fill the 70t cavalry mech quite nicely.

That one is pretty good too. I also like the Morion helmet style head.

I'd love to get a Whammy 9D....
