Let's take the Pirahna for example.
Standard pack = $20
Collector pack = $30
Reinforcement = $10
Hero = $10
Ultimate = $50
I don't really get the Ultimate package advertising as it offers no discount from the component parts and therefore no incentive to buy those pieces together.
If someone was buying the ultimate pack couldn't there be a discount from the component prices, as with most other bulk buy options?
There could also be something similar for ordering combinations of the others e.g.:
Standard + reinforcement
Standard + hero
Collector + reinforcement
Collector + hero

what possible use could you have for that many pirahnas
I mean it made more sense when you had to have 3 of a mech to level up your mechs
but they didnt change the pricing structure since they got rid of that....
theres no reason to buy the ultimate anyway

they should at least change the pricing structure to something like:
standard pack - $10 - one variant
collectors pack - $20 - +30% cbill variant + two variants
ultimate pack - $40 - +30% cbill variant + four variants + hero
hero addon - $10 - (requires at least standard pack)
reinforcement addon - $10 - two variants (requires at least standard pack)
but even then why do you need so many pirahnas? lol

Or for that matter, turn the mech packs into FACTION themed mech packs. 4 of the most common Diamond Shark Mechs, 3-4 Jade Falcon Mechs, 3-4 Wolf, 3-4 Ghost Bear etc. Throw in specific bundle deal with decal, primary colours and camo to get people started or give a more incentive (much less consumer conscious thought) to buy.
If they're truly going to keep with this redundant mech pack theme at least switch them to be Faction friendly ones. Or do something NEW like Comstar Mech pack - Nexus, Raijin, Shootist, Spartan.

A. The collector's pack has a very bad price to content ratio. It's 50% more cash than the standard pack but only gives you one extra mech, and it's just a clone of a standard variant anyways.
B. Mediums, heavies, and assaults all share the same real money cost. This is an issue because these classes generally have different C-Bill costs in-game, so advertising a Phoenix Hawk to have the same value as a Kodiak is pretty silly when the Kodiak costs a mountain of space money to buy while Pixies are much easier to get.
C. The fact that you are required to buy multiple variants at a time is an obsolete legacy feature from the days when we had the rule of three. We don't need three variants to level up anymore, so retaining this system no longer makes any sense. It should be a per-variant pricing system that gives you a dynamic discount based on how many variants you pick (more variants = lower price per unit), in addition to unlocking other bonuses like premium time as you increase the size of your purchase.
D. The special C-Bill booster variant should be able to be chosen by the player rather than always being the "Prime" variant. In many cases the "Prime" variant just plain sucks (especially problematic for Battlemechs who can't pod swap), or otherwise it might not fit the playstyle of the customer. Heck, maybe even let people get multiple special variants if they want to. More money for the devs.

The Piranha is a battlemech, so personally i could need the PIR-1 for MG-mayhem, the PIR-2 for laser shenanigans, the PIR-A for it's four AMS and the hero for it's versatility.
I bought the standard pack for the first two variants and maybe i'll get the hero too. If the PIR-B would be more interesting i'd consider the reinforcements too.
So i can totally understand if someone wants the ultimate pack, although i think PGI would make more profit in the long run if they would offer some discount or bonus stuff for those crazy guys who help a lot to keep MWO alive by buying ultimate packs.
BTW: If the Piranha would be an omni, i would still want the other variants for their pods.
Edit:
But i agree that the current pack structure is not that customer-friendly because often the most interesting variants are in the reinforcement or hero upgrade. So i'd like to pick each mech i need individually as FubDup suggested.

You also get additional 30 day premium, but for many veterans the value of premium time has decreased.
So i agree that the collector's pack is not worth it's price for many of us.

Lets not forget though that its Active Premium Time. You use to get it Banked to use at your leisure. They seem to have made that subtle little switch recently.
