Atlas was never meant to be a slow moving mountain of metal that cant pick up its own arms. here is a pic minus a 1000 words to describe the agility and mobility of the Atlas!

I have a jenner pilot somewhere that's been turned into hamburger thanks to an Atlas pilot grabbing him.

That poor Jenner. Turns out Jenners make good wrecking balls.

OK, time for more rigorous math instead of the off-the-cuff values I proposed previously.

Current Atlas agility with max skill tree allows you lateral displacement in 250ms of about:
  • Accelerating, 90 degree angle: 0.330 meters
  • Decelerating, 90 degree angle: 0.457 meters
  • Leg turning at max throttle, assuming 360-rated engine with max speed tweak (62.6725 kph): 0.386 meters
Combining leg turning with deceleration, you'll get somewhat less than the sum of the two values. You'd want to slope step to get the best combination of the two. From deceleration, you'll get 0.323 meters, and combined with leg turning you'll get a total lateral displacement of 0.709 meters.

One other factor is torso twist speed. At current values it's 73.13 deg/sec with maxed skill tree. In 250 ms you can blade your torso by 18.2825 degrees. This actually reduces the profile of the torso hitboxes by about 5%, down to 2.27 meters instead of 2.4 meters. From the center of the hitbox to the edges on either side is a distance of 1.135 meters.

So, if we want to get that lateral displacement up to about 1.135 meters, we need:
  • Atlas acceleration/deceleration at 28 meters/sec^2. When slope-stepping at 45 degrees, this gives you a displacement of 0.618 meters.
  • Atlas turn rate at 55 deg/sec, giving a lateral displacement of 0.519 meters.
So, not quite 30 meters/sec^2 and 60 deg/sec that I initially threw out, but quite close to it. Keep in mind this is assuming a max-engined Atlas with full speed tweak. These would be the final numbers after applying the max skill tree nodes for turn rate, accel/decel, and speed tweak. Meaning that a player would have to invest heavily into the Skill Tree's agility nodes to get to that point. So the base values for the Atlas would be:
  • Accel and Decel: 22.49 meters/sec^2
  • Turn rate: 44 deg/sec
These values could be changed if torso twist speed were tweaked. If torso twist speed were increased dramatically, say, to 130 deg/sec, you'd present a target profile per torso hitbox of 2 meters instead of 2.27, and that would reduce the need for higher accel/decel and turn rate values.

The idea is to give it some combination of the 3 attributes of accel/decel, turn rate, and torso twist rate, that would allow an Atlas to spread incoming damage even against the very best marksmen in the game.
