Dear MWO Devs who don't know how to play:

If you create a different game mode, and want people to actually play according to the game mode, you have to make the score reflect the objectives.

This ain't MW4 TA, is it? Oh yeah, it is. Damage > ALL.

Seriously, do you guys even ALPHA test your own game?

I'm here to play Shooty Stompy Robots


The two newest game modes are absolutely terrible, in my opinion, and I hate playing them
That's because they have objectives which can lead to matches ending outright without ANY robot shooting

That's a waste of 5 minutes queue, 5 minutes walk into the fight, and bucket loads of salt



I don't care if I make 30k Cbills or 300k Cbills, I'm here to shoot Robots
And, seeing as Tick Boxes are LosTech™, I'm forced to play these horrendous game modes...and you want to make them even LESS enjoyable?

MWO is closer to Team Destruction, not Team Attrition. You win primarily based on kills. Damage is merely a means to an end used to achieve said kills. You don't win based on damage alone unless that damage leads to kills.

OK, them what is the point of MWO? Just killing robots isn't mech warrior? Killing robots is a part of MW but the real game is everything else.... Arena FPS's don't need teams. Don't need a real story. If so, you don't need game modes and lots of maps: just one flat un-cluttered small arena..... And, there will be so few players there will be no game.....

You know you play too much Assetto Corsa / Initial D Arcade when you see TA and your first instinct is "Time Attack?".

McG and Fup, I respect your opinions. Here's the thing: if it was K:D, I'd be a fly on on a pile, b/c my K:D is always positive since about 2003. But for gits and shiggles, as a light pilot, sometimes I play the game mode and go for caps, batteries (radar, etc.), you know the drill. I may out-cap everyone, or out-damage enemy-base for the win, then look! All those caps and damage got me c-bills and NO points. So....as I've said since about 2012, MWO devs don't know how to play their own game, it's still team deathball in EVERY game mode b/c they don't adjust the rewards enough to make it worth the time to play the other modes. This isn't about which game mode is better. This is about - if MWO cares - which game mode is worth playing.

how does escort lead to matches that end without robot shooting when the objective is to shoot a robot?

I dunno, but I do know that Escort leads to a lot of matches where I wish my robot could shoot itself...

^^Bingo. Escort sucks. Incursion sucks. Pointless, so every PUG ends up Skirmish anyway. So...my point is, if you aren't going to make it fun, and make it worth playing, just do TA/TD like MW4.

Being in a short range robot, never able to get into range without being suicidal

Or too passive a PUGtato team, never engaging the other team (defending or attacking)


We've had an ally Leg the VIP, then suddenly lose the match...because he got stuck. No robot shooting there



Naturally, I've stopped taking short range builds. Far too frustrating and situational, but that still doesn't make me like those two cancerous game modes

well PGI pretty much killed short range. most of the <200m weapons suck now like CSPL and CERSL

theres no point to short range weapons when medium and long range weapons put out the same or greater damage with significantly longer range

youd think short range weapons would do the most damage but nope.

Are you fracking kidding me? The copious amounts of salty tears produced by those drops are well worth it.

Heck, as I used to say:

I cap for the tears, the vast flowing rivers of salty(*) male nerd-rage tears.

It is much the same when health pools are finite though, each touch of damage cannot be undone, and many components that get destroyed, aside from shield arms, cause a mech to be impaired. Damage alone doesn't get wins but teams only have a set health pool total, each hit diminishes that and increases the chance one of those mechs will fall as a result of the damage.

Lucky! I just mount my thrustmaster wheel/gearbox to the desk. The sad part is out of the 438 hours i have, 98% of that is on modded mountain passes (Haruna, Shomaru, Iroha, etc.) with the japanese pack. But hey i can easily do the ditch turn in anything at this point, so there's that.
