I'm in Oceanic timezone and every time we try (now and then over the last 3-4 months) we can not ever get into a game. Right now we've been sitting here searching for 15 minutes. Every time we eventually just give up. What's going on? I thought it was meant to get progressively easier to get into a game as time searching went on? Is the player population so low we just can't play any more?
IMHO this seriously needs improvement, I'm trying to get people back into the game and we literally can't play the game.

Try other more populated zones, NA and Europe.
Group queue is busticated with events in QP/CW.

I'm surprised group que funtions at all without restricting groups at least to even numbers.

If you're in a group and you click QP, I think if your group comprises players in Tiers outside the matchmaking rules, you won't get a game. A few days ago I grouped with a Tier 5 (I'm Tier 3), just 2 of us, clicked QP, and no game was found in 10 minutes (all 3 regions selected). We gave up, broke up the group, went back to solo, hit QP and boom a match in seconds.
So we concluded it was the Tier 5 + Tier 3 in a group that messed up the MM and gave us no games.

Addition: a group of 2 always has problems to find a match, you should be at least 3 player in a group. and like others said, also go on NA and European Servers.

Thats because only a tiny group of ppl plays mwo.
The reason for that is that pgi never understood how important it is to provide a smooth gaming experience. They focused on other things.
The worst mistake they ever made was to create entirely unfun faction warfware that is so bad, that I myself only tried it about 5 times. And I have played since open beta.
So many resources, so much money and time and effort went into cw.....but its just too abysmal. I cant even begin to imagine why anybody would enjoy cw. If cw would have been implemented cleverly and creatively with absolutely fun gampelay....mwo would have gotten more and more and even more players. It could have easily rivaled other very popular online games.
Easily.
But pgi lacks vision and expertise.
I played cw about 5 times and 4 of those times I got absolutely abysmal and complete überbad players. Cannonfodder ppl.
Why?
Im tier 1. I have played for half a decade. Im a good, strong, solid player.
Why am I teamed up with absolute cannonfodder?
Which directly transtlated to us - our team/teams - getting massacred not for a few mins like in quickplay. But for an eternity. With no hope to ever compensate for 10 mechs running single file into an entrenched, combined, focused, much, much better team. They got masscared instantly and not even mighty Zeus himself would have had any chance at all to win or even dish out significant dmg.
I did that about 5 times, turned around, and never came back.
That was so insanely unfun that - as I said - I cant even in my wildest fever dreams begin to try to understand how even a single sane person could enjoy community warfare.
Thats one reason. Mwo gave away its by far biggest opportunity by being less than mediocre in the one department that everybody was looking forward to. Fun, meaningful, impactful, addictive mechcombat on huge battlefields, with reinforcements, objectives, planets and bases that can be invaded and all that.
Mwo utterly failed in that department. Failed just way too hard.
The other reason is....mwo doenst run anywhere near stable. Not at all.
I know at least 3 players that stopped and deleted mwo after they just crashed too often.
Even with a good solid system, mwo doesnt run smooth at all. They chose a bad engine, they dont have good devs (only the design ppl are really good, they are actuall very good), dont have experience with these kind of games.
That is the reason....those are the reasons, why you will wait forever to find a game with your group.
