Correction: There was in fact a crapload of crying about the Spider, and even to this day some people hold a grudge against the chassis.

And IIRC the only broken spot (with video proof) was a small hole (like the size of an AC shell) in the CT near the waist?

In this day and age of MWO, I should specify

I remember the whining.

Yes, that's the spot I remember. Lasers dealt no damage on one square
Not unlike the 0-Pinger Heads (who take no face damage)

I think PGI designed it to be good at poptarting and only poptarting, since that's what you are going to have to do to keep those things intact.

I think you are confused with something. You seem to be assuming those of us with the preorder WANT to keep them intact throughout the match and not die in a blaze of glory with all guns firing. If I hadn't already named my Enforcer with a RAC/5 arm and a 5 ML side "Terminator", I would have called at least one of my Thanatos that.

After realizing how big they really are (i expected Cataphract-size) and seeing the tiny durabilityquirks i decided not to buy them.
I guess they will suffer from the "dragonitis".

Thanatos is oversized based on PGI's rescaling rules. Compare to Mad Cat and others. That's all that matters here and it should be fixed.

I think PGI is looking at the size of the Thanatos Center Torso which is narrow and overcompensating by bypassing the re-scale rules they created/applied to other mechs, but the Thanatos has a huge weakness already which is it's barn-door side torsos which, if you ever piloted a Thanatos you know players just aim for the side torsos, similar to the Mad Cat now.

Fix the Thanatos's scale please.

The mech is not released jet. Nobody played it.

But of course fix it!

That's not the point. The point is that the Thanatos is more massive than any other 75 ton mech. The mistakes are most obvious when you compare to the Orion and Mad Cat. It's as tall as the Orion, but has bigger legs, arms, and side torsos from the front and same from the side plus the side torsos are about 30 to 50% larger from the side. So maybe the mass of an 80 tonner or close? Then look a t the Mad Cat comparison and the size errors are even more pronounced. Like I say, PGI invented their scaling mechanic for good or worse and applied it to every mech regardless of logic or the in-game effects, so too late now to start up-sizing mechs for balance. They need to make the Thanatos about 7% shorter I am guessing to be consistent with the rules of the Re-Scale.
