This map is a massive artistic failure. Yellow nothingness for miles. The sky should invoke a causitic color schema, but the object lighting is unmodified white.

Where in universe can an environment be both foggy and brightly lit?

Tourmaline is overly bright and washed out and caustic is hazy and low vis. Those effects are appropriate for the design. This map has nothing. Not even dynamic time of day. Every map should have this enabled as they gave on pre-rendered shadows years ago. Seems like a rush job.

It's a trap.

The UAC is barely a 5% bonus for the AC2. You're better off with 3xAC2s and a couple of or even a single ERLL, dropping 2 tons of ammo (since you're burning less total).

I did like a bajillion tests on UACs vs AC2s using the MAD, testing RAC2, UAC2, AC2 combos for what was the fastest to kill all 8 mechs on Caustic Valley running an identical path (cent/awesome/phract/catapult/cicada/mando/atlas/jenner).

Averaged over 20 attempts with each setup 3 AC2s was significantly (11 second average faster speed on an average 183 second run) faster. While statistically standing still the 3xUAC2s are 5% higher DPS heat cap issues burned that benefit and it was universally less successful at getting damage on a single location.

RAC2s have a similar issue; because if you don't wait for the full cycle to cool down on the RAC2 you lose that spin-up time. This forces RAC2s to wait longer to cooldown.

End of the day in a rough simulation of how it plays in game the regular AC2 is overall a better setup to boat.

So... the colours are a bit too brown and unappealing, the map is somewhat small, the fighting only takes place in a small portion of the map and options are limited by a small number of chokepoints?

It does sound a bit like this new map in 2017 is receiving the same criticism as the original maps from 2012.

@Allistair: Perhaps the smallness is in anticipation of the return to 8v8.

Its obviously inspired by Venus. And is very nice. Venus has a huge atmosphere with surface pressure being equal to that at 1000m deep into the Earth' ocean. And is brightly lit still.

UAC are not overly heat effective. More then the lasers but less then proper AC.

UAC isnt worth it with ac 2. With 5, 10, 20 it gives 20-40% benefits in burst dps for a small time and also additional burst alpha strike options. That without quirks and skills.

But they are like 1.5 times less heat effecient when compared to vanilla AC. Especially the c-AC10. Thats why the long term dps suffers.

I've been on school-related hiatus for over a month, so I haven't had a chance to play the new map. Can't wait for this term to end.

I really want to play this new map. It's about damn time, and looks like fun. Seems to favor short- and mid-range as well as jump jets and mobility. Not exactly a replacement for Old Frozen City, but its something that isn't long sight-lines and seems to not have 1 single feature that is obviously to Nascar around.

The lower visibility and dark-colored environment is also going to be fun to run around in with a jet-black mech. That being almost all my mechs.

PS: Just because a map is hot does not mean it's a bad map. Just means it's less friendly to pure laser boat builds.
Edit: I hope PGI un-nerfs jump jets too, but that seems unlikely. Still, one can hope.

I am going to guess you are a Canadian student effected by the strike?

Two days ago.

Planet Earth, Western Hemisphere, North American Continent, Michigan, appx 8.40 AM EST.

Pretty cool to see a fog bank roll in locking us in. And yet, the sun was still out, and when light hits the fog, it is diffused in such a way that made it rather bright.
