Since this thing can be driven in any direction while firing on a target, do you still put more armor in front or you go 50/50 everywhere?

Now that the 68(L) is on smurfy I was having a look at different builds and thought of that so I was curious to ask.

On other lights, I tend to leave more armor in the back, as I'm often headed away from enemies (run up, shoot, run off).

But yeah, urbie rotates. Run up shooting, run off still facing and shooting. So more armor in the front. At least for me.

More armor in a front. A lot more. On fast lights, like commandos and locusts, the best bet is to front load armor (because there is so little armor to begin with-and you get more out of the survival node's armor bonuses this way, as well). Always be aware of the positions of enemies, so if you are in a place where your back can get shot at while you are trying to backstab, you can gtfo fast.

One big mistake of the light pilot is running away in a straight line with their torso facing straight ahead. That's a dbl gauss to the back just waiting to happen. When you run, be sure to zigzag and torso twist.

Honestly, I rarely face completely away from my direction of travel in an Urbie, it's just too disorienting for me.

Like pretty much every mech in the game heavy frontload, specially for urbie because of the reason you mentioned... max 3 in the backside.

I always put my rear armor at 8/10/8 because I have enough to spare up front - and I am one who runs blindly while facing backwards so I helps to have map awareness. I often twist damage enough that having some back armor to roll to comes in handy.

I build the Urbie with like 1 or 2 extra points of rear armor than my other lights of that size because people really like to shoot your butt when you have your legs facing away from them. You'll take more rear CT damage than usual as an Urbie even if an enemy never gets behind you.

Lights torso twist so fast that you really shouldn't be getting hit in the back unless you're out of position, or not seeing an arty, or are the last mech and being chased.

Hold on there guys. Being someone who regularly does a torso twist 180 in my urbie and runs away while firing I would like to point out that the hitboxes while performing this maneuver are extremely weird and I have had cases happen before where I have had my torso facing an enemy while running away, got shot in the front, but all the damage went into my back side torso for no good reason. So be careful when doing this.

Could the shots have been going to the butt? I'm not sure if the butt hosts any ST, but that may have been it?

I tend to run a little more back armor than a usual light because I tend to brawl with my urbie.

Pretty sure the butt hit boxes are rear torsos - kinda why I keep it a little thicker there.

Ok then I guess we will have some testers to report findings how hit boxes really work on the Urbie?

I'm pretty good to keep driving forward and shoot enemies behind (while I flee?) so it's important to know where to put armor and how hit boxes work on the unique Urbie.

P.S. Reading some answers, I think some didn't really understand my point.

To share armor on an Urbie, I generally try to stay behind cover, like an Atlas or Kodiak.

Other than that, I rely on mobility and speed far more than armor, just like any other light.

Urbie Secret to Survival Tip #4

To avoid damage, run at top speed, spin torso continually clockwise, and yell; "Not in the Face!"

Crotch shots on an Urbie that's spun it's torso to bring it's frontal armor facing your way will still deal rear torso damage, as long as you're shooting at the back of the leg. It's the one case where it's got a weak point.

Assuming youre not totally flanked, being able to face your opponent as you run away is seriously satisfiying. I dunno I have just lost way to many locusts to stray back shots I didnt see coming (Well derp no **** I didnt see them coming! But the Urbie always see`s everything!)

Anyone was able to test? I don't have 2 computers (that may change soon) and no friends to test this. I wanted to see what happens when you face someone and he fires at you, the front CT should blink, then just turn head 180° and repeat, again front CT only should blink.

Now if other plays move behind you like in a flee situation where you run foward but look back and fire at the ennemy, if he fires at you he should now hit the back CT. this would prove that for once I may have the split armor a bt more equally on the Urbie than any other mech.
