I saw this and felt with the release of the Black Lanner and the recent event it was far to appropriate to pass up. If it now gets nicknamed the rhoomba i will take full responsibility and laugh.

I still say it is called Black Lanner cause it runs really really fast.

I mean, in theory, you can stick a couple SRM6s on it and just play it like that Griffin with 4 missile hardpoints and ECM, except hella fast. But you need the Reinforcement pack, won't have much ammo, and most other builds it can run are probably going to be hot garbage due to absurdly low available tonnage. I expect lots of way-too-big MLX-G-wannabe Black Lanners, because it has quite a few ballistic and energy hardpoints but not enough tonnage to fit even a single UAC10.

It's definitely a mech you want to wait and buy for C-bills.

Less than what....11 tons of pod space with full armor and ECM? 55 tons so banned from scouting. Its fast and looks cool from the concept art I guess?

Pod space will probably hurt it pretty good. Everything will either be too hot, or you can't mount anything worth laughs.
I watched Kanajashis spreadsheet warrior deal...probably will pass on that guy, though at first glance ECM+MASC shoot...I was all opening my wallet

Still hurting from my Arctic Wolf purchase, though, I dont' like it. So i passed on it.

I don't ever see any of those wreaking face, or see them much around really...mostly because they die really fast I imagine.

Yes, I'm aware some people love the thing and rock out it in it...just isn't my cup of tea

Im not gonna diss it before i actually see how it is in game, but i have a strong suspicion its really not gonna be all that viable with just 12t of weaponry. Only reason im not 100% against the thing is that i did fall into the camp that looked at the linebacker and thought DOA, but now its a staple clam mech that is very good at brawling, and i use it for conquest games where i want a tanky agile fast mover.

Still, the linebacker has 22t of weapons payload (if you count the 4 locked DHS in engine), which is weak, but not THAT weak. The crow has 23t of podspace, which is like double that of the black chikin, so not only do you have more options available (not optimal but the crow can carry ballistics, and heavy missiles like ATM/LRM/SSRM in large quantities). That and if you select to bring lasers, you are stuck with small/micro class since anything else will cook you and result in comparable firepower to a bloody cutefox (im pretty sure the total laser ability wont exceed the P2W purifier by much).

Anyways, as ive said b4, im gonna reserve my final judgement for when i see how people play em in game, ive been wrong b4 on mechs which i thought would have been trash, but ended up good or even great (even if they are still all niche)...

PGI dev 1 : Hmm, all these fast clan mechs with limited pod space and oversized engines are really unpopular outside of niche situations like FP conquest. What should we release for the next clan mech?

PGI dev 2 : I know! Let's release ANOTHER clan mech with limited pod space!

PGI dev 1 : Genius!

I am not so sure it is going to be as bad as most people think it is going to be though it will depend alot upon the mobility stats that PGI assigns it and we won't know that until just a few days before release. Like the Linebacker it is going to need enhanced agility because having a fast top speed isn't going to be enough to make it viable, it is going to have to be quick too. If it gets good acceleration, deceleration and turn rate it could be pretty good.

You have to consider that with Tweak it is going to have a stock speed of 121.9 kph which means it can keep up with most light mechs and with MASC engaged it does something silly like 150 kph for short bursts. It also has ECM and cockpit level or higher weapons mounts. I am thinking 5-6 ER MLs with 6-7 DHS, skill speced out for heat management, range (gives ER MLs something like 460m optimal range), cooldown/duration and speed tweak. Then play midfield support at about 300-350m, where you can hide in your ECM envelope and remain mostly unnoticed. If noticed, use you extremely high speed to relocate and strike from another angle. I have a similar set up on my Purifier which only runs 107 kph and is fragile has hell yet manage to very commonly output at least 500 damage per match with quite a few kills and KMDDs as well.

I think they will be spectacular at winning gather games and smoke dive like no other.

Unfortunately there is no point to smoke diving if you actually want Cbills, any kind of experiance or most event rewards.

As someone who immediately wrote off the Linebacker, I'll take a more measured approach with this one.

Can she run heavy lasers though?

HMLs probably. Two HLLs and 3 ERMLs with no additional DHSs is probably not even worth playing. I expect to see more ERSL/HSL + LMG builds, or the occasional SRM build.
