So... a typical reporter's level of "competence"?

It's polygon. You remember their Doom gameplay right?

So I watched the 10 min video.
I know this is just a beta teaser, but I'm NOT impressed at all. To me its disappointing!

PGI will have to do 1,000 times better for them to get me to spend 1 penny on MW5. Just sayin'

Same here. Not very impressed. Lot of work to do. Hope they do it.

Minor feedback: I hope you guys improve the sound design before you launch this thing. That "CLANG" noise I kept hearing was really annoying.

I thought the sound design was fantastic, the real high point in the whole video. The clangs and new weapon effects really made it feel much more low tech and contributed to the gritty Succession Wars vibe they're going for I think. In MWO, the mechs are so quiet and slick that they feel like anime designs sometimes. Please don't change a thing about the MW5 sound PGI.

I'm still laughing...
This game play is so bad....
Game looks like from 2010...
40 hour of play time....
Still can't get up from the floor...
Like always, great job PGI...

The game play looks okay. But what would make any game 5 times more fun is playing with a friend in co-op campaign. A friend can go brawler and I can go as a support sniper!!!

Looks good and the info on map generation down the article sounds amazing.

I do concerned however that gamplay graphics looks kinda worse than what it was in the first trailer. And the destructable parts of buildings look very outdated.

Here's what I feel is the good and the bad of the recent MW5 development presented in the video and article:

The Good:

1) Random maps! Oh yeah baby! Finally! Hope they apply that to MWO..

2) Assets such as tanks and helicopters - great way to improve immersion and sense of scale. They seem well done.

3) The environment looks better than MWO.. a lot better.

4) Destructible environment! Building that collapse! Awesome! Really like the battle-damage you can cause..

5) Walk-out dropship! No more hovering and being dropped.. now you walk the mech out.. oh, and there's Unity dropships Posted Image

6) Development direction - with the exception of the no-mech-customization, the ideas presented in the article seem solid. Accountability, failing missions, missions classes by difficulty, not the whole game set at difficulty, different mechs for different factions and starting locations.. all seems very very good.. And I've been suggesting most of it for MWO for years now.. so it looks like they listened and took note.

7) Atlas has glowing eyes again <3

The Bad:

1) The mech hud still needs work. It looks basic, unfinished, and more akin to a 90's MW game than today's modern game. MWO has a nicer hud. What happened to 3D models instead of paperdolls? It deserves nicer graphics, nicer paperdolls, and the ability to change color depending on mech, or personal settings, as well as color-blind support like the flashing cursor on hit.

2) Rubble and debris from collapsing buildings has an ugly, basic texture.

3) I hope the showcased mission was just that - a showcase, cose' there's no logical way why a single Shadow Hawk could take on tanks, hellicopters, a K2, a Jagermech and an Atlas, and have any hope of winning.

4) The green mini-map looked basic and difficult to see..

5) What's with your dropship always being visible? Are we expected to run that often?

All in all, I'm pleased by the current progress, but there's still a long way to go.

Also, please, don't stop working on MWO, and take what was learned (like random maps) and implement it into MWO!

I have some issues about jumping:
- It looks like hovering. No reticule shake, no fall damage, no appropriate sound. Also the JJ in battletech were supposed to propell you forward, not so much upward, iirc.
- Is death from above a thing? Can I jump at the helicopters and what will happen to them and to my mech?
- Can I jump at building? Will the crumble? Are there different building strengths? This would help with immersion. Also one might be able to hide in a building (by entering through the roof...)

Besides that: What Vellron said.

In the article, they say some missions are really hard and you might not be able to complete (depending on the strength of your lance). Going with a single Shadow Hawk on a hard mission is suicide.

About the dropship, I find good it's visible because sometimes you will need to run. Like that guy should have after completing the objective (instead of trying to take out a heavy lance alone).

Agreed on everything else.

Nothing that hypes me..

Thats the minimum of what i had expected to become after 5 years development in MWO, what i see in the vid.No SIM feeling (again). Tanks Helis some KI Base defenders. They should better overthink their decision for a pve game and better make a pvp game .

Dont forget the FOV setting pgi in the finished game...or include a Sim mode

I loved the alpha gameplay. My observations are, although a good effort already, its possible to improve the "feel" inside a mech, sound, walking and imo especially dimensions. Shouldnt we have a feeling that we are really small inside a huge mech? The vegetation was too close. I was also not sure that this game play could ever substitute MWO as a PvP.
But it is looking awesome.
