I just played against someone who was explicitly bunny hopping to prevent being hit and I am curious what the community thinks about things like this. Is this "OK" just because this is "in the game" and not thus not a exploit and not considered as cheating? I dont want to name-shame so i dont mention names, but i have a video.

Some of the light mechs are already hard to hit, due to broken hit boxes. If someone, even in Tier1, uses bunny hopping to prevent being hit, this is just lame and a bad player to me. I am not speaking about long JJ burns, what i mean here are very short JJ burns to trick the game engine, so shots are not applied to the mechs' hit boxes.

It's lame...and a bad player to you?

I recall people in one of the CoD games running around while holding lean because it made you really hard to hit because of bad programming which made the player model very thin.

In this case however, it is more like torso twisting than exploiting. It is just another technique to spread armour and while it makes you harder to hit, there is nothing unfair about it.

You can reiterate your opinion as much as you like. It doesn't make you right.

Truth is truth. What I stated is fact. Poorly addressed and exploitable.

I want to see the video!! Could have been me last night Dancing in front of 3 mechs 800 meters away well out of their optimum distracting them while my team surrounded them. With some epic dance moves was dodging like it was going of style. Was brilliant stratrgy and super fun.

Anyways I seen someone two days agobin an assassin to appear to intentionally lag glitch in a way where every half second he would glitch move.. was very cheap tactic. Reported him multiple games for doing it.

In JJ animations the legs are significantly off on the Assassin and most surprisingly the ST are almost completely gone - the ST is almost 1/2 arm when it's doing its JJ animation.

Tested repeatedly. I don't really record but if anyone wants to test that you'll see it's pretty obvious. Almost all the way to the CT 'nose' section ends up spreading damage to the arms. STs are almost non-existent when hopping.

Only reliable way to snuff an Assassin is shoot him in the junk. It was consistent when jumping.

Assassin IMO has turned into thew new Arctic Cheetah, but taller. Man those things are difficult to nail down, agile buggers they are. I need to pick one up, they look super fun to play.

Also, I dunno if people are purposely "exploiting" it.
Well, because of this thread specifically now they might.

But i never thought jumping around was "meta" try hard.
I was always like...oh fack, get me the hell out of here!!! Juke juke, jump jump jump! Get heck away from me you douch!!!

assassin is way worse than the arctic cheetah ever was

yesterday I shot a jumpjetting assassin in the CT with 6 MPL and 2 LPL and then 6 more MPL (it was a 12 MPL 2 LPL direwhale, and yes its way overgunned, but I dont care because its funny) and the assassin walked away with yellow armor. And I hit it with the full beam durations both times I fired.

assassin's hitboxes are so @!#$ed up it can shrug off 100+ alphas like theyre nothing. or in this case it was a 66 dmg alpha and a 42 dmg alpha a half second later.

PGI needs to redraw that ****. right now the assassin is the tankiest mech in the game bar none. and they probably wont fix it till next year...

Yeah, some mechs can simply bug the game out to start teleporting up and down using that and tbh thats exploit.

To fix that though you could just make jj's work properly where they are indeed used to jump instead of hovering.

You should test the huntsman for this glitch also

lol bunny hopping isn't an exploit, there is a minimal benefit to doing it nowadays compared to how it was before (i.e. old TBR).

Really we're complaining about this now?
Did the animation completely make the target invulnerable to damage? No, you're just going to have to aim better or wait until the animation finishes.

It's not a new "complaint". And! While I do "wait". Should we be having to? No. We shouldn't.

This sort of a trick is an exploit of the game engine, not cheating per say but a cheap tactic nevertheless.

I don't judge the tactic, I judge the player, doing this puts them on the same level as the meta-tryhards in my opinion. They resort to cheap tactics to make up for a lack of skill. I feel sorry for them, they'll never know the true joy of a STD60 Urbie.

Bunny hopping in MWO is nothing like it is in other games like COD.

It is mostly ineffective. How effective is it? How much did you see during the Worlds?

MWO is about shielding and spreading damage non of which are exploits. Not even when using jump jets to try and do that. There is plenty of mentions of avoiding/limiting fire in Battletech lore.

If there are hit box issues caused by animations then that is a different issue which should be fixed.

Try reporting people for bunny hopping, if they get banned, it's not OK, otherwise it's OK :)
