Hey Guys, and Girls,
I'm a relatively new pilot, I did play back in the Mec 4,5, Blackknight, merc, days, I have been working to get my skills back up, (Been here almost 2 months) and thought I was doing some better, but it seems like all my opposing teams in Quick play are getting better and better, and more LRM's which I'm not bitching about, part of the game. I am hopefully toward the end of tier 5.
So I guess my question is, am I getting worse and punished every game, or getting better and going up against better opponent's?
I try to get my lancemates to group up, fire targets, etc, but it seems its every man for himself.
I would like to get with a team that works together and get some training also.
Thanks for any help!

What mech are you using? Maybe you should try a relatively "beginner friendly" mech?

I started with the HBR-Prime Laser Vomit build only about a month ago, it's very easy to play and basically, you learn more about awareness and how to support your teammates better.

Currently, I am in Tier 3 and this mech is still doing really well.

It gets somewhat better in higher tier as the players get more experienced and stick together, but dont expect a great amount of fire focus or tactics in higher tiers. Tier 4 is still "newbie grounds" like tier 5. Tier 3 is where things get really hard when you get there as you are matched with and against veteran players.

The honest answer to this is: get a decent unit for this.

There are still a lot of players in Tier 5 that don't have a clue because they are brand new and still trying to figure things out.

Do yourself and your team a favor, if you're not on comms, get on comms. If you're on comms use them to call targets and try to get everyone to focus on a single enemy.

At the low tiers its mostly every man for himself. Most of the players there haven't really learned to play yet or just don't take the game seriously in any form. As you move up the tiers you'll find a little more teamwork, but for the most part quickplay just doesn't have a whole lot of it. You'll more often find teamwork only commonly in certain units that are semi competitive and above.

If you're looking for teamwork I'd definitely suggest joining up with a good unit. You'll have a lot more fun with one if you'd like that style of play and you'll win very often. I'd check out in the Faction Play forums, check the team leaderboards and join a good merc unit, they'll help you learn to play very well and they work together well.

if you want more teamwork join group queue, but be warned group queue is much tougher than solo, because people are (mostly) working together on both sides

as others have said join a unit, check the Faction Play forum, most units have adverts in the relevent faction area, or just check player signitures (hint).

before joining on a unit make sure you have the same interests so visit their site or their teamspeak/discord/other VOIP server and try to find out if your interests are compatable, e.g.
do you want to be super competitave, or do you just want to have fun (assuming you are not super competitave winning may not be everything to you)
do you need basic or advanced training and are they willing to provide,
are they active when you are,
is their code of conduct acceptable to you.
