As it was set up though you can't blame players for taking the best options available to them.

I wish more people would realize this - You can hardly blame players for doing what works. This covers Comp Play and Faction Play - The adage 'Don't hate the player, hate the game' is remarkably apt in this case.

Would really like to see different maps get played besides Canyon and Tourmaline. They should rework how the maps are chosen, such as not being able to pick a map more than once during the same round.

I expect EMP to win it all.

This... Also, does anybody really care? With only about 2000 players playing at any given time, is being the "Champions" of that small of a player base really anything to brag about?

Jokes aside having some tonnage restrictions and weight classes would help a lot.

You can even offer a single swap - one weight class for another - in return for 5 or 10 tons less total deck weight. So you could give up 10 tons to drop 3 mediums and 1 light for example.

Options to skew decks into something very atypical gives more room to do something really unexpected. The 2/2/2/2 no tonnage restriction really doesn't, it just rewards taking the biggest mech for the job.

Could even do an odds/evens tradeoff where odd tonnages only on one wave, even on another.

Chassis banning.

Now that would be spicy!

Bidding. Both teams bid down tonnage, lowest bid both teams have to take -

But the team that bid last can't take the same mechs the other team does.

So if my team bids 400, you bid 395. I we both have to go 395 but I get to pick mechs first and you can't take what I do.

Yes, they're still better than the roughly 28,000 players (Season 17 leaderboard) who actively play this game. Even if the game is small it's still an accomplishment to be the best at something.

This just sounds like sour grapes on your part.

how do you pronounce your name?

For some reason I'm thinking Chiffias, although I could be and am usually wrong.

I've watched half lances of 228s wipe the floor with multiple same-team lances, and these guys *lost* in comp.

People saying these guys are anything other than best of the best is laughable.

While it's true that even among professionals (e.g.: Gridiron NFL), armchair quarterbacks like you and me can easily sit on our couches pointing out a million mistakes being made by the players on the field... the ability to spot their mistakes doesn't translate to you yourself possessing the ability to play at that same level, or avoid making just as many mistakes (if not more).

The vibe I get from some players who think their own builds/strategies would work better is similar to the vibe I get from guys who think their own martial arts school teaches the deadliest super-secret techniques that work in "real" fights.... but when actually challenged on it, make up excuses to avoid showing up. Or, they do show up to fight and get absolutely wrecked.

I've seen MischiefSC make similar offers to test some folks' pet theories, but I've never seen them step up to the plate to accept the challenge. It's fine to have theories, but if you're not willing to risk your ego to test those theories, well... I suppose that's one way to keep your delusions safe.

I mean, I talked to a couple of them and they seem nice enough, but they REALLY don't handle loss well. I was sitting fairly close to their table when Eon beat them in one of those best of fives and there was a lot of scowling and swearing. comparing that to how i saw 228 Blackwatch and Eon act when they lost shows the other teams had far superior sportsmanship, which honestly should get rewarded.

But maybe that's why those other two lose more. :D :P

Xiph is correctly pronounced Zif. It comes from Xiphias Gladius aka Swordfish. It's originally a Greek word stemming from Xiphos which means sword.

Meh. The only reason I root for EmP is all the anti-NA toxicity that constantly spews from everybody else and EmP is generally considered "NA" even if they do have players from all around. It's fun watching the hopes and dreams of every bottom feeder going "EU > NA" get shattered when their savior is systematically disassembled.

Some rules the should bring in:

Only one chassis type per match, no double super nova's and hunchbacks all the time.

Maps can only be run once per round (lets see poke wars on veridian and a few of the other brawling maps)

None of which is that relevant, coming in to a congratulations thread to say "the winners were a bunch of ********" was uncool to begin with. You want to talk **** about the people who just beat you do it in Teamspeak like the rest of us.

No need to get into he said she said - props to EmP for winning against any and all comers. Again. If someone wants to throw shade that's why we invented Reddit. So your quality trash talk can get upvoted and the unfunny stuff get ignored.

...but it's pretty pathetic that due to their rep for being jerks that they literally had to bring in members of their own team and family and/or girlfriends.

Wait, EMP brought relatives and significant others with them on a road trip to a competitive event where they may need moral and emotional support, and where they could potentially have a nice, interesting evening with people they love and appreciate?

Those monstrous sons of *******.

I know that if I were going to a world championship at something I'm proud of I'd tell my family to piss off, I only get approval from the company and accolades of strangers. Also how are you supposed to cruise for nerd chicks with your spouse/girlfriend/parents there.

Why else do people go to cons?
