They can always just give it the agility of a dump truck if a Sun Spider with six lasers were to be too stronk for MWO to handle.

Which is totally fine, something needs to hold this spider down to avoid it being too potent.

yeah its like having A sun spider vs jumping spider thing going on. The latter is 10 x cuter!

It might have few weapons but can friggin JUMP!

PS PGI, we need water droplet bolt-ons for our Light class spiders.

So what does this mech do well over the Novacat, Night Gyr, ebj or lbk? I thought splat woyld be a good idea but we already have lots of splatbackers.

Well, NCT and NTG are slow with more firepower. The SNS is "normal" heavy speed with "normal" heavy firepower. The SNS is good if you want to go 81 kph instead of 65. So I would compare the SNS more to the MDD, HBR, EBJ, SMN, and TBR.

The LBK has very terrible convergence, and doesn't have enough tonnage to run six SRM6 with artemis. The SNS can do the MDD splat build, at the same speed, with more heatsinks. So I think that will be interesting. Could be a good choice for 1v1.

SNS compared to EBJ though? Well, EBJ and TBR can do real laservomit, which is the strongest in the current meta. SNS has to trade in a lot of tonnage to mount gauss if it wants to compete in a similar niche, and I just don't think that's as strong as pure laservomit right now. (unless you're a MCII, and can run a full laservomit build, AND add two gauss to it... )

With the free Sun Spider hero's loadout posted, will you be adding builds for that one?

I really don't want to. I've never been more bored when coming up with builds for a mech. Usually I enjoy doing them, but doing the Sun Spider ones in the OP felt like a chore. I can't really explain why.

the new hero sunspider lets the sunspider run dual ballistics + 3 lasers

and it can now strip one of the arms of armor to run more ammo

so now it is better than the ebon jag

Not enough crit slots in the torso. It can fit one gauss and nothing else. You could fit a cUAC10 plus a medium, but if your goal is UAC10s, than you'd probably be better suited to do it on the NCT or NTG where you can mount more dakka. Otherwise it's just not enough to compete with EBJ laservomit, imo.

oh I see the sunspider has its fixed endo/ferro in stupid places to prevent it from having an actual loadout.

not only can it not laser vomit unless you buy the hero, but it deliberately cockblocks you from using dual gauss if you dont buy the hero

wow please do yourselves a favor and dont buy this mech

wtf pgi

what happened to "would you like to buy a mechpack?"

Giving away a free Sun Spider hero is pretty smart, since you won't have any omni-pods for months unless you buy some other packs.

Wut, you can already do that on the EBJ.

yes but the EBJ also has a fat CT that gets hit all the time

I thought if you could do the same thing on the sunspider youd get better hitboxes out of it

but nope you cant do it. the fixed endo/ferro slots are in the way. they clog up the side torsos for no good reason. thats the worst place they could be and PGI stuck them there, obviously on purpose.

Its so bad they literally have to give it away

Dual Gauss can be done on the Alternate A and D variants using the stock pods, plus the stock free hero.

The paid hero doesn't even have any ballistics, you silly goose. Here's my spreadsheet for studying purposes:

the paid hero DOES have the energy hardpoints though

obviously it can do dual gauss without lasers

but I was talking about dual gauss + 3 lasers

the same build the ebon jaguar does...

the sunspider isnt able to fit gauss+laser+xl+2 armor+2 endo in its side torso. it requires 13 slots but it only has 12.

which means the sunspider cant strip one of its arms completely like the ebon jag can

TLDR: dont buy this piece of crap, just get an ebon jaguar

Huh?

The hero will allow you to do the same build with a little extra armour, and a half ton of ammo.

Posted Image

But it's still inferior to what the EBJ and TBR can do.

Posted Image

If you try to replicate that on the Sun Spider, you get this:

Posted Image

... which in my opinion looks weaker than the EBJ and TBR. One of the chief reasons being that both side torsos are packed with explosives, instead of only one.

not really. if PGI was actually creative with their options when it came to nerfing things

we wouldnt have clan mechs that drive like dumptrucks in the first place

especially when the lore says theyre not supposed to drive like dumptrucks, like the timberwolf

That's really vague. But suffice it to say that no matter how you find a way to balance Clan and IS, there will always be somebody on the Clan side complaining that Clan is nerfed. If there was a "best way" to handle it, then everybody would have been shouting it at PGI by now, but truth is... nobody agrees on a best way to handle it, and I would challenge you to come up with a better solution and rally the support to implement.

Personally, I'm a fan of the nerfing clan heatsinks solution.

Facinating!
Thanks for the info guys! I had no idea the EBJ was capable of carrying 3mls on top of 2 gauss xD.

The SNS-D gets to be the Gausspider.

You can just go with the classic version and get at least 5-6 tons of ammo, or trim things down a little on the legs/head armor (just like the Gaussjager) and fit it with ECM.

I was thinking this, too. It feels like a natural evolution for MADIIC-D pilots (myself included) who miss our "OP" pre-nerf invisible space-turkeys.

The SNS-D promises 2xGauss, higher-mounted,* on a faster-running and faster-twisting ECM heavy. The speed and maneuverability is going to free up skill points from the movement tree, which the D's engine cap, engine desync, and the nerf to the MADIIC's twist forced us to really invest in. It is of course impossible to know how scale and hit boxes will play at this point, but suffice to say that the MADIIC's arms didn't shield squat, and it's side hit boxes were bigger than barns, so in theory pilots who can make the 2xGauss MADIIC-D work will only fare better in an at-least-somewhat smaller gausspider.

The big drawback I see with this build is space for alternate weapons, in terms of both tonnage and hardpoints. For solo QP, you can't count on teammates to always effectively screen the enemy's lights. You might go with a GR in either arm (which offers high mounts and some arm (upper only) mobility, but leaves you dependent on torso-mounted 2xHMGs to fall back on. Or you could go with one in an arm (presumably the RA) and one in the RT. This leaves the LA arm free to strip of armor to free up tonnage, but leaves only one ballistic slot in the RT. If possible, I'd probably want to get the 2xE LA off the hero and put some HML's on for just-in-case.

I'm not playing for the foreseeable future, and I usually don't go in for the "early rewards," but I'm so interested in the SNS that I'm considering a preorder.

Thanks, but can you narrow this down so I don't have to watch the whole thing? Or better yet, just tell me how to get a free hero SNS by playing one game on the 27th, please. I don't have game-worthy internet right now, but I might go down to my folks' place and play a few matches if I can get in on that.

*I mean whether arm or torso mounted; the D's arms are slung so low I once TKed a light that parked in front of me while I was zoomed in and I didn't even know it until the pilot started cussing me out.
