EMP won against EON to seat itself on the top with some outstanding plays from both teams. Bows3r was murderous in his Warhawk per usual. Proton was decidedly unique in a 3UAC2 Dragon. Riddick finally got killed.
Matches went 2 EMP, 1 EON, 1 EMP.

Next up, rematch between EON and 228 Black Watch. Good chance for some redemption for both teams, there.

Honestly surprised/perplexed by some of the decisions/calls that were made in the matches esp when spectating and seeing how they played out. That 6ERLL Night Gyr L3golas employed had me scratching my head a bit.

Big decider in the first match between EON and EMP was the MLX push EMP employed on Canyon and the way that EON got corralled in the canyon near d2/d3

Edit - apparently not the end, but the prelude to the end and a repeat of matches. EON goes on to play 228, like they already did earlier and the winner of THAT goes on to fight EMP for the final. hue

Would really like to see different maps get played besides Canyon and Tourmaline. They should rework how the maps are chosen, such as not being able to pick a map more than once during the same round.

I expect EMP to win it all.

It's a snooze fest so far. 228 threw harder than a professional baseball player, making bizarre, bewildering, stupid decisions from mechlab to the field. EON was completely outmatched by EMP, and the only interesting match of the evening so far was the one where EMP Air Struck itself half to death giving EON a chance.

And now they're talking about a technical glitch negating the results. How thrilling.

Am I mistaken, wasn't that last bout the round for 1st place between EMP and EON? I though all that's left is for EON and 228 to settle out for 2nd and 3rd place?

This.

I want to know why people aren't voting 'weird' maps when fighting EON. They're going to smash you on the standard maps, why not do something weird and see if it throws them off balance? Whats the worst that can happen, they beat you there too?

Technicality in regards to how many damn air strikes were thrown out on a reg basis. My goodness, you would think that this is an airborne battle. I get it, arty strikes are a thing now. Doesn't mean I agree with it from a honorable way to fight perspective.

The ERLL BLR-1G was most surprising. The BLR's niche is poking with ERLL. But you can't win a poke against a 'Mech already exposed that knows where you are going to poke from. He just ate double cERPPC volleys every time. And...the damage output is way down with isERLL. It was just an odd choice all around.

NTG is also weird. You don't have the slots to fill up all your tonnage with DHS after bringing 6x cERLL. You could even fit a 7th. Normally you'd want Gauss on the NTG so you can poptart against Assaults and keep the cERLL to add extra damage when the opportunity presents. Going all-in on cERLL just opens yourself up to take massive return fire for a 'Mech that is not even Assault class.

EON fights 228 again, then the winner of that fights EmP.

Which is where not going with a straight double elim is going to get wierd because we could easily see both sets of matches repeated again. EON is likely to have to play 4 matches vs the 2 each for 228 and EMP, literally it's a watch EON play against someone tourny.

Well, the way they set it up still has some merit. Supposing EmP lost to EON in their set, 228th would have a chance to fight them and we'd get to see if it was just EON that could beat 228th. If 228th loses again, then you know EON vs EmP is the right match-up.

That's the theory, anyway: to control for the possibility of flukes. Not that I think the results we are seeing are flukes, mind you.

The NightGyr D with 6 ERLLs. I theory built it and the best I could get was 1.11 heat efficiency with something like 2-3 tons left over, and that's with removing the arm actuator that would actually make it somewhat handy/maneuverable. It just makes no sense. I run the stock pods NTG-C with the 4 ER-LL Gauss sometimes and enjoy it for the most part. Saw 2 of those on the 228 side of the fight earlier.

Word of the Year 2017 for MWO is....*drum roll* POKE...for the 3rd year in a role.

Seriously, caught a glimpse of EMP's match on Desert and it was like watching a boring FPS where everyone's armed with only assault rifles. Half the team didn't even move and just sat on one spot and fling cLasers from half way across the map and occasionally side step into cover only to return to the same friggin spot.

Even the caster's voice didn't change his tone the whole match.

Yeah, I got nothing. The NTG has pretty high mounts, so maybe their thought was to use those, but the damage output with 6x cERLL is miserable compared to the alternatives.

Typical build is usually 2x cGauss and 2x cERLL (sometimes with 2x cERML). Alt build is 1x cGauss and 3x or 4x cERLL. The theme I'm seeing throughout this tournament, though, is that these Night Gyrs are dangerous due to their potential damage if left unchecked but they don't seem to be that hard to manage for the opposition.

I think the 3x cERLL one is better since you can shove a Mark V TC in there, but really the option is more damage through better range or more damage through more guns with 4x cERLL.

The plays from the faster, more mobile 'Mechs are good and watching the longer term strategy unfold is rewarding.

The only alternative is brawl, which is even more of a snooze-fest since it's just two teams stupidly running at each other.

Yes, the awful map design coupled with outdated weapon mechanics means laser poke IS the most effective. I don't blame the players, I blame PGI.

Can't wait for Battletech where missiles, heat and tactics matters.

Lock-on missiles will and should always suck in a real time shooter precisely because they lock on. They are the poster-child of crutch weapon in any game.

The heat does matter. What you don't necessarily see is that most comp 'Mechs are running undergunned versions of builds you see a lot of in QP specifically so that they reduce the heat. If heat did things like slow 'Mechs down, you'd just see even more static game-play since firing on the move is too risky. You'd see less combustible weapons used for the same reason. Being able to ride that heat curve is just too important.

228 BW won the first round. They actually switched up on some strat. It was a good fight overall.
L3golas changed to a Summoner Nippletart, from the ineffective 6ERLL Night Gyr thank goodness, but thought it would be something other than that. Think I saw the 4 ERLL NTG C on 228 side as well (meh).

In a reverse direction, the second match was very painful to watch on Canyon.

3rd round was on POLAR HIGHLANDS (???). Actually kind of neat both teams opted to mix it up from the standard fare.
Win for EON fully through, thanks to artfully directed airstrikes (Airstrike warrior Online) and the Battlemaster 1G and it's godliness at ERLL trading.

Yeah, the low-rolling hills were perfect for the BLR-1G. That's its natural habitat.

228 was too passive. Wrong 'Mechs, too, they simply couldn't get damage out. They didn't even use the mobility of the EXEs much, which makes me question the wisdom of bringing them.
