What makes you think porting a game from one engine to another is an easy task?

Ok, I'll bite. Which game? From which engine to which engine, including version? How extensive was the netcode?

Not on this engine. It's a FrankenEngine now. They've had to rebuild parts of it to make things work. It's why everything runs a little wonky at times. Perhaps if they recreate it MWO in unreal4.

Maybe PGi should hire Teslacoil above. It looks like he has extensive experience. Posted Image

I doubt the cost would really be all that high. Probably 80-90% of what they'd need to do would already be done thanks to the effort put in to MW5.

The MW5 engine is basically a new piece of work from scratch, compared to the mess of a CryEngine one MWO uses.

PGI needs to rebuild the game from scratch in order to improve anything visually, as it is the engine is being pushed to its absolute limit.

If they're not already doing this right now behind the scenes, either as an upgrade to MWO or to be used in a new game (MWO2 or whatever?) then it will never happen in time.

Maybe MW5's engine is capable of running MWO? Not sure about that.

Explain how? What exactly wouldn't they be able to recycle from MWO and MW5 that would make it such a monumental task?

The new Solaris map preview, first impression was is this a PS3 game?

Oh man, this is exactly what i thought as well! But i just shrugged it off as a pre-beta release thing. More so becuase the frame rates from the video are like at 15fps...no thanks. The game already runs like butt and doesn't work the GPU properly.

Graphics actually used to be better and was downgraded due to low performance cry ( people with low spec CPU). You used to see THROUGH a cataphract with destroyed torso. Now it's ugly decal/sticker bullet holes.

That is exactly why they should update them, to draw in new players that see games like battlefront and to retain existing players.
I wont buy an EA game but Dice sure outdid themselves with the stunning graphics that game has.
For all the flaws that game has at the hands of it's publisher it is gorgeous.
Battlefront is proof that you can indeed polish a ****.

To attract people to a game there needs to be a game in the first place. I will never accept that QP is the game rather than the leftovers from beta.
Also there will always be a load of Star Wars fans who will play any Star Wars game, unless you manage to really screw up....like with SWGalaxies, but people are still even playing that years after the official servers closed.
People might not like EA but at least they haven't alienated the Star Wars fan base. Anyone who takes an interest in MWO only needs to look on YouTube to find very bad reviews of MWO and pgi.

An engine isn't just something separate from the rest of the game code so you can just change the engine parts and copy/paste the rest of the code. They'd have to go through every single line of code and rewrite everything for the new engine.

I believe PGI has stated that it would take about a year worth of work to port over to an new engine and take up the majority of their resources, so we would see very little in the way of improvements and new "content" to the game for that period.

Carrying 7 Potatos is easier than carrying 11 Potatos

That is entirely subjective. If they go back to 8v8 or not I don't really care, but 8v8 was not some masterful game design immune from the problems people complain about now. What fond memories people have(myself included) are all tainted because the game then is not the game now.

Graphics are fine. People need to stop being so picky. MWO needs gameplay improvements far before graphics.

CE3 is too dated to really matter in 2017. Anything 5 years old needs a tech refresh stat.

I think you'd be in the minority. Many people who backed MWO have lost a lot of trust since then.

I'm banking on the silent majority.

World of Tanks recently released a totally new graphics engine -- I would guess that its revenue and player base is on par with MWO. It is a newer game that looked very good but they still saw the need to port the engine. MWO has a far greater need to update. I don't understand why PGI would not invest in this. There is a synergy with Battletech and MW5 that PGI would do best to capitalize on rather than orphan MWO. PLEASE PGI don't let this game die!
