I like how people get a ton of things for free and they complain. Is it really so hard to just appriciate free stuff?

^^ this.

People are so paranoid these days; I know the reason why they're doing this, and that is to keep the playerbase interested in the game. That's all. Nothing major or devious about this at all, they just want people to play the game more or be interested.

If you have to work or are in some place without pc and net you are going to miss out not doing that one match on that day. Looks like I'm going to miss it.

@Scout Derek: Nobody is paranoid about gift giving or such non-sense. The crux of the interest is why the promotion is so large in comparison to previous years. The interest is one of academic and business curiosity.

By giving away the hero at zero cost they are essentially forefitting all possible sales of that add-on to the existing player base. Why would you do that unless things were desperate?

What question we really want to arrive at ultimately is if a promotional budget attracts and retains players at a known rate can player population be estimated based on the perceived value of the gift basket. How linear is the relationship and how crude is the estimate?

Hello all,

Since the Sun Spider and Roughneck are already 'in the can' so to speak, it doesn't cost PGI much to come up with new variants for them. Will this cost them sales of the other Hero mechs? Possibly, but on the other hand it might get folks to buy a basic pack, which is still decent value for most mechs.

The other stuff is just tasty gravy Posted Image .

Good hunting,
CFC Conky

I'm thinking they want a lot of players online on the 27th for some reason. Perhaps to either test or gather data on the matchmaker, would be my guess... but it could certainly be something else.

Well the Heros won't be out till march, according to the new section.

2 Free Hero Mechs with Mech Bays - Delivered in March

They'll still be credited to your account should you decide to reinstall again in or after march.

If you plan to reinstall to play only 1 day what is the point?

I get it, OP. I'm feeling it too. Not that I'm not happy about the free stuff but it is just plain creepy when someone who is usually stingy suddenly becomes super generous for no apparent reason. It freaks you out, and makes you wonder "No way this stuff is actually free. What's the catch?" just because it's so hard to believe. Look guys, nobody's complaining about free stuff. They're just a little freaked out because it's about as shocking and out of character as Donald Trump being humble.

I had to cut off my right and left hands to pay for all this free stuff.

Load up the game > drop in direstar > alpha at someone > override to alpha again and die > shouldn't take more than 5 minutes of your time.

I suspect it may be an attempt to lure new players in. At least that's how I would do it, if I was a game developer. People might create alternate accounts, play that one match for the goodies and give it to a friend who might be interested in the game. The stuff you get is pretty decent for starters. Once you know what you are doing after 2-3 months, you get the new Hero mechs. Motivation is kept up, you keep playing.

You have just given me a great way to scam potential marks get friends into playing the game. Here's to hoping.

In all seriousness though. I'm just glad to see this happening.

Because if you like the Sun Spider, this basically means you're gonna be inclined to grab the others for pods. And they're real money cost in March.

And I wonder if he reinstalled the game to play about 2 games per day for the month of December to get 600MC. For very little effort, you are getting a nice reward. I think the components daily is the only one that has taken longer than 2 3 games. You cant really force a component to be destroyed except if you are stomping a team and start stripping arms, torso's and legs with MAC guns for crits off the last few mechs.

I like this idea. This is what I'm going to choose to believe because this is the reasoning that freaks me out the least.

It probably has something to do with the fact that people generally don't like PGI made mechs. So they are giving you one for free to change your opinion on them.

It far exceeds the amount of gifting it would require to get more people to play this game. 7 day premium time and 1250MC alone would have been sufficient.

All we should say is TY PGI

Because I hope eventually they pass management of this game to some people that are more competent game designers. It would be fantastic if this game got developed out so it was more interesting than just a pretty basic arena shooter with licensed skins.

*Also I will only play 1 game unless by some miracle a pile of OLD happen to be online. Minimum Viable Effort.

Did reinstall it today in the background, didn't know about that deal, but 60 games really isn't worth 600MC to me.
1 match for 2 hero mechs is worth a drop and hope they manage to make some improvements to the game sometime in the next year. 'Technically' it will be 1 match for 3 hero mechs if I grab a lighter option.

Worth the 10 minute match, and keeping a glimmer of hope they actually decide to develop out FW towards something that at least resembles what they pitched us when we first bought into the game.
