Personally, I'm more curious to know why the 27th specifically. I understand not placing the event on the 25th since some people might be too busy to play on Christmas day.

MS evaluating whether or not to extend the MW relationship with PGI. Will be based on number achieved via login on 27/12. Hence PGI wants everyone to log in on that day, hence gifts.

25th - Christmas
26th - Traveling Back Home
27th - Event

I doubt there will be a MWO2. Pgi have MW5 now, the game they actually wanted to make in the first place.
Besides, who would be a founder for a pgi game now?

Sorry to ruin all your theories, but the reason was actually mentioned at Mech_Con. The date was picked because they looked in the logs of past years to find a day as close as possible to Christmas with as high a login count as possible. The 27th ended up being that day.

Well there's still people that throw money at this game every time they announce a new mech pack, and whether any of us like it or not their business model for this game is far more likely to work than a single player game with non-customizable mechs so an engine port without much in the way of game improvement and massive amount of begging/misleading for funding is a pretty likely scenario.
