It is preemptive way to prevent sudden population crash that may severely damages the game. After holidays and stuffs people are way too tired so they don't play games much.

since you want conspiracy theories, the best thing i can tinfoil up is that PGI is trying to find the main accounts of either tk trolls or cheaters, try to get alts to all log in on the same client or something

but nah its just a cool giveaway like the 7 days if prem time.

I believe it is just good marketing (god forbid that PGI finally start doing such things at this point in the game's life).
2 chasis that the nostalgia crowd won't buy as PGI creations...now they get one variant of each for nothing. Maybe they will play these free mechs maybe they won't. Maybe they will like them maybe they won't. Maybe they will decide that in likeling them they will then buy a mechs pack of them maybe they won't.

But unless they get these things into people's hands somehow that maybe is for a lot of folks a "I will never try let alone buy one of these things because mah lore and such".

I don't think this will work mind you, but at least PGI is trying.

Plus this will also give them a way to see just how many people out there are still following the game if not actually playing.

Unfortunately the most likely scenario, followed by a new founders program for MWoII on the unreal engine.

it will be equally minimally viable and will use the same mech models from mwo, except you have to buy all the mechpacks again.

I think the most likely scenario is indeed the not-so-distant closing of MWO. The handing out of MC had me worried for some time

No, it’s more sinister than that. The 27th is my wife’s birthday, and she is not an MWO fan.

PGI, why u mad at me?!?!

I hear a whip crack...

I think most likely scenario is that they need some solid numbers how much people are still interested in MWO. Could help either proving something to investors or something like that. 27th could be simply because it's the first workday after the great celebration of capitalism.

Anyways, don't ask questions, play. It can't do you much harm in this case.

27th is the best time, otherwise you're going to get moan threads about how you guys aren't free on the 25th, just like what happened with the recent Thanksgiving stuff. Soooo many complaints about not having the time...

what are they testing or measuring?

Maybe Russ is testing a new marketing strategy. The Sun Spider is a Omni-Mech, so if you want to have other Omni-Pods you have to buy the Mech-Pack or wait.

You were right there is a conspiracy....it deeply infiltrated into Vancouver and PGI itself:

cross sum of 27th Dec (12. month) is 2+7+1+2 = 12.

But the secret message lies in the year where that secret event happens...I figured out what year exactly: It's 2018 ( cross sum is 2+0+1+8 = 11)

both numbers add up to 23 which is the number of the Illuminati

My in-law's will be in town looking to celebrate Christmas that evening, and I cannot take off work that day.

Maybe not a conspiracy, but given the circumstances this is going to be one very quick match.... Bonzai!!!!!

It's the only day in the PGI year that is the absolute least played day they have !!! Everybody will be traveling "someplace" else because of the holiday.......

it's that or they are honoring Charles Darwin, since he set sail that day on his epic voyage........ After all, we have a high population of Darwin Award candidates that play this game !

Maybe, PGI has a birthday on the 27th and that employee plays MWO?

Any other guesses?

It's been a good year for PGI. They just want to show their appreciation for the good bottom line to the player base.

This right here is why the sudden generosity has me freaked the **** out. I hope it's not this, but I kind of feel like it is. PGI has always been generous with free items but never THIS generous.
