And those clan players aren't wrong - IS SRM/SSRM splat builds are brutal up close but lack range, so if you have a mech that can keep them at distance and fight while they're unable to put their weapons to use, you will dictate the terms of engagement.
Another thing you'll want to note is that Clan SSRMs have a 25% greater range than IS equivalents. If you can use that range advantage to stay in the 300-360m range band, you can spam your own streaks with relative impunity from enemy streakboats.
The clan range thing is worthy of note. Ingame I advise my teammates to make full use of jumpjets to poptart SSRMs vs IS Bushwackers, and to jump to height to break locks if focused down. Range is another useful point, my SSRMs do 385m, but my Huntsman will need changes to speed/skillnodes if it wants to keep out of IS range cuz the Bushwacker also does 81kph ootb, and battle dynamics (eg lighter mechs in the enemy team) will mean it's near impossible for a Huntsman to stay out of range. Which leads to....
...the "dictate terms of engagement" thing.... is pretty much advocating the Clan Scout meta being a fast ranged mech, eg erLL, LRM, instead of the SSRM Huntsman.
