It's called Airstrikes and Artillery strikes. And while they have a place in the game, they need to have some form of tonnage or slot investment so they aren't free damage.

the problem with longtoms and mech mortars is mechs cant pitch up enough to aim them

even the highest pitch of 30 degrees isnt enough of an upward pitch to make a mortar weapon work. and some mechs only have a 16 degree pitch.

mortar weapons would need special coding to allow you to increase or decrease barrel pitch independent of torso pitch. suffice to say that will never happen.

ARROWIV would be far easier to implement. ARROWIV could be implemented just using existing game mechanics.

or you could just add a red arch line, kinda like shell shock

maybe just a partial line

or use one those monitor screens for something xD

hmm arty with tonnage investment? sounds like basically what this is, tonnage, slot, and ammo investment

and mech mortars are basically lrms that can't lock on and ams doesn't attack them and do more damage pre "mortar" then missile so a mech mortar/8 is 16 possible damage

basically dead fire lrms that do more damage pre missile

nah you just have them pitch kinda same way you move your arms when arm lock is off, cept for the cannons an the red line would be the general way it would go, it's a arty strike on a mech, not a ac shot

should probably make it so arty weapons could only fire while standing still as well

hard but fun~

but how does that work for mechs with bad arm pitch? its the same problem... annihilator for example only has 25 degree arm pitch. you cant properly aim a ballistic arcing weapon with pitch that bad.

also if it uses the arm reticle, how do you aim your arm weapons at the same time youre using the longtom?

theres all kinds of problems with that

theres also the problem that clans cant use longtoms...

again ARROWIV makes way more sense. it avoids all those problems and is available for both IS and clans.

We have had Long Tom for 8 or 9 month. It killed CW.

Thanks, not again.

That was PGI's version of Long Tom.
The kind that did a maximum of 1360 damage to a single mech.

Long Tom proper could do 30 damage if you're in the 30 meter 'kill zone', 20 damage if you're up to 60 meters away from the impact, and 10 damage if you're up to 90 meters away from the impact site for a total diameter of 180 meters (165 meters technically). Even if you double the total possible damage, you'd get 540 damage as the maximum possible within that 165 to 180 meter diameter site split across no more than 19 mechs in tabletop (actual damage from TT is 270). But yes even doubled 540 damage as the total damage dealt to all targets in the area is very different than 1360 damage PER MECH.

No tactical nukes, no insane ********. And damage is spread in 5 unit chunks to various body parts. No 300 damage applied directly to your CT bullcrap like PGI did.
