In all honesty, to balance Solaris so that all mechs have a good chance vs all other mechs in a dueling setting would destroy balance for the rest of the game. How's a long range fire-support mech like the Summoner supposed to stand toe to toe with an 8 SRM6 Archer in a duel without also being far too powerful in it's intended roll on a QP match in Polar Highlands?

That's why they go in different divisions... and why the different arenas will have different environments. That SRM48 archer is going to have a painful trip across Steiner Coliseum to reach 270m+- range on the Summoner.

Did anyone ask if the divisions require stock builds?

Cuz you can radically alter a mech's potential by moving away from some of the stock builds that work okay in tabletop but have no place at all in a game with double armor and pinpoint accuracy (I'm looking at you Ghillie! and you're not alone)

Hey KodiacGW........me: no way I am letting you farm me.........even in my new R68(L) which I do really like !! Nope, not gonna happen !

In a one v one it would not be farming. The term doesn't make sense in this context.

If you don't feel you would do well or a good at one on ones, I understand. Not sure where I would fit in there myself.

Certainly though I won't judge it before it is even out the door...what'd that fellow say about contempt prior to investigation again?

urbie tier 1 on day 1.

It has Atlas health. Would not be surprised at all if it does well.

I loathe the idea of having 7 different divisions for mechs

it means PGI has no intention of properly balancing mechs ever

the whole thing is an eschewal to not having to balance their game properly

well as mechs are balanced for 12v12 game play, such balance wouldnt work in 1v1 or 2v2 game play,
such as a KDK-3 vs a AWS-8R, in a 1v1 game they wouldnt be comparable, which is why the Divisions,

so make the Awesome better?

I mean thats how balancing works.

if one mech is way better than another mech... you either nerf the mech thats better or you buff the mech thats worse... until both mechs are equal.

since the Kodiak has already been super nerfed, buffing the Awesome is the obvious choice.

sticking mechs into 7 different tiers is nothing but laziness and a total avoidance of having to balance the mechs so theyre all on the same level.

and how is IS vs Clan ever going to get balanced if the whole issue of balancing mechs is avoided?

Balancing IS vs Clan tech and balancing mechs should be priority #1 for PGI. Before they do ANYTHING else. Solaris should not be intentionally designed around the premise that mechs cant be balanced.... thats ludicrous.

1x1 = No......
Farming is not a plural word: I have two friends that are individual farmers and they own and farm 6 sections of land (6 square miles....)
I would stand little to any chance against most "good players." So, why even get involved in something many of us have little or any business doing??? We learnt our lessons in Faction Play where we were the "points herd" many on this forum gleefully slaughtered and then told us to "get GuD noobs"...... Naw, fool me once...... Fool us once...... Most of "us" are gone anyway and those of us left are here for nastalgia only and free stuff.....

I wish you good luck and good hunting in Solaris........we'll see you and quite a few others in QP when even you get tired of being "farmed" by the elite players Solaris is designed for.

hopefully the divisions are based on the most successful builds possible in that particular variant

I have a totally different take: building more meat, much much more meat, into the game should be priority #1 for PGI. Obsessing about balancing a completely emaciated skeleton of a game still just gives you nothing but a skeleton.

What did obsessively balancing [XXX](*) and going full circle several times over give us during all of those 5 years?

(*): any Mech, Weapon, Equipment

your experience differs from mine

I recall PGI's idea of aggressively balancing being like 1 balance patch that changed a couple things every 2-3 months

I dont think theyve ever really attempted to balance their game lol

to take on Solaris 7
