Believe it or not, the Deathstrike was pretty darn effective in its stock loadout.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Mist Lynx G.

I donno. I feel like hero mechs are cheating when it comes to stock mode. I mean, I can probably rattle off a half dozen hero mechs with really solid stock loadouts.

True, heros are retrofited to begin with.

Grashopper 5P is my pick btw, std 280, 2 ppc 2 medium 2 med pulse, 4 jumpjets, dhs, endo 17 heatsinks full armor.

You know, the Arrow is surprisingly intelligent for what it is. Only minor modifications swapping down to a 225 and going for Pulse Lasers are really necessary.

The Legend Killer is nearly perfect stock. I started wrecking face my first match and never looked back.

Yeah, all the heroes cheat a bit because they were made specifically for MWO. And actually the same's true for the Grasshopper 5P.

The Royal Crab 27B is also kind of OK, with 2xERLL+ML+SL and luxurious 16 DHS in tabletop stock form.

Quite a few hero designs are actually directly from tabletop game.

HBK-4P. I still run that mech stock.

The nova was great as is when it was first released. Also the timberwolf. The centurion A and AL were good back in beta days.

Well except for SHS, the Hunch 4G and the Victor 9B are pretty decent, big punch of an AC20 backed up by medium lasers and also SRM's for the Victor. Not high end meta machines, but definitely usable in QP (just need that DHS switch). Also the Jenner, with an SRM4 and lasers is pretty good as far as loadout (except for SHS again), even has speed. Yah it has hit box issues, but the loadout is good, no wonky eclectic mix of weapons that doesn't perform so well in MWO.

Yah but a lot are PGI originals. Natasha Kerensky ran a stock Warhammer, so the Black Widow is not from TT. Same with Grey Death and Pirates Bane, Grayson Carlyle and Lori Kalmar-Carlyle ran stock Shadow Hawk and Locust machines. Ditto for the Tempest, as Morgan Kell also ran stock. Katana Kat was a typical Panther, just like Grinner was a typical Wolfhound (until rebuilt with clan tech). Aiden Pryde used a Summoner with a Prime loadout the majority of the time, so the Summoner hero is off. Honestly it's hard to think of one that is actually pulled from TT without modification, maybe the Enforcer hero? Granted, to be worth buying and to be effective these mechs needed to be changed, but most iconic mechwarriors used typical machines in BT.

edit-well except for Yen-lo Wang, that mech is pretty much pulled stock from BT/TT.

Bushy 2P. Yeah it's not a technically official build in universe but i could see the p1 and p2 made in a limited run for mercs and testing the bushwacker's ability with different weapon specialties other then autocannons. Its practically screaming to be on the field all day with 2 erLL to reduce ammo costs and the mpl/mg combo is perfect for finishing damaged Mechs. The only major mod I've done after trying different weapon and engine systems was armor tweaking and light machine guns. 2 lb10 was fun but just didn't feel right on it.

Browsed abit, the Timberwolf and Mad Dog with their twin laser and twin missile builds seem good, and Hunchback IIC(O) with twin UAC20s and stripped armour looks interesting.

I'm going to throw a second vote in for the SCR Prime.

I've recommended that mech to a few people as their first purchase and it hasn't disappointed any of them.

It has a very easy to use laser vomit that can engage at most distances to some effect.
It doesn't have anything with ammo so it isn't carrying a table top load of very little ammo for a lot of weapons.
It doesn't have a ton of armor shaved off to fit weapons, only 6 armor in total is removed from it and over half of that is in the heavily armored legs.
It doesn't trigger any ghost heat.
Has a 43 point alpha and 12 DHS outside the engine giving it almost 4 DPS according to Smurfy.
Has END/FF and DHS already.

Considering most of the 'stock mechs' were ripped from tabletop, the 80s/90s are more to blame here than PGI.

But I forget myself; Logic has no place in the brown sea.

I'll say that the Nightstar's stock loadouts are rather solid for MWO. The Marauder IIC is also rather serviceable by comparison to most.

Mechs like the Hunchback 4P were golden children but they don't hold up well against mechs with DHS.
