How are PUG players supposed to get 200 stockings when they keep getting steamrolled by 12mans?

PGI, this is so poorly thought out.

I assume you're talking about CW. For all their posturing, PGI doesn't really care about CW, which is why it is the way it is.

If you don't have a full group, just drop in quick play.

As much as I am loath to say this, but if you are trying to do the FP portion of the event, concentrate on your own performance over that of your team's victory. (This runs counter to everything I normally say here).

A good way to increase your match score is by having fewer deaths. Each mech you take into the fight drops your match score, sometimes dramatically. I believe it will divide your match score by the number of mechs used in the match. So, surviving a match with your first mech gives you better match score than the same performance with all four mechs... Also, look for things that increase your match score. AMS is one such option as you get a boost for every missile (not aimed at yourself) that it shoots down. Also, if you are in a light mech, stick near your team to earn protected lights. Even better, combine the two into a single concept. (Such as a dual AMS Wolfhound or Panther for an example.) Stick near heavies or assaults with it for the protection, and shooting down missiles aimed at teammates.

I mean, I agree that a match score of 250 is a very lofty goal to aim for... and it wont be easy. So... Yeah.

Another thing to note... Log in on Dec 27th, play a QP match and get a match score of 50. Once you do, you'll get all sorts of goodies. One of those things are 25 stockings... Meaning you don't need 50 full FP matchest, but only 25 qualifying FP matches to complete that event.
Also, as a side note, none of the mechs up for grabs have any C-bill boost, so if you don't get the event completed, I wouldn't sweat it. It still is a nice offer, but nothing like the prizes being offered in Oct for the Trick or Treat event.

Actually you need 38 qualifying matches. 200 stockings total,100 from 100 QP matches worth 1 a piece, 100 from 50 FP matches worth 2 a piece.

QP is easy since its 150.

For FP, it WILL be a grind. Personally, in this event, first time I am trying Scouting instead of Invasion, and I find it much faster and easier to get it. I am almost there, only need 3x more 250 match scores.

Scouting with Streaks. It is nasty and goes against everything I normally say re scouting, but probably more achievable for solo players.

Yup, I went 6x SSRMs on Huntsman. Just completed the 75 loot bags needed for FP. Sick of FP for now. :P

Don't forget BAP (Beagle Active Probe) to counter ECM.

And TAG, since you get bonus score for TAG Damage and TAG Kills.

Here's a stupid newbie question related to this topic from a returning player:

How do you tell what your match score actually is?

End match screen it'll show you. In CW it'll divide total matchscore by mechs used, which causes some people to play to the detriment of their team trying to game the matchscore. Classically, you'll always get half your damage in match score, (plus all the little benefit point.) so you get an idea of where you are when you lose your mech.

Probably that's because he did some team damage. Team damage will affect the match score severely.

There are three "tabs" at the end of match screen: Player Stats, Team Stats and Faction Stats. Click Team Stats and you will see a scoreboard of both teams' performances.

That's the only explanation. 500 DMG is guaranteed 250 match score otherwise.

This is just rediculous. The point of FW is to make a good team. PGI then makes stupid events like this which put the value of some arbitrary score which has little to do with performance over the objective of the game. Not only that, it's an arbitrarily hard match to make, especially if you have cultivated good tactics which favor disabling a mech with accurate strikes.

I take it the issue is you are unable to do it? Streakboat, m'man, streakboat.

You shouldn't be relegated to a specific mech loadout just to do a single event 50 times.

And you're not - you can do it with a lot of other builds if you're good enough.
However, no matter what a goal is, there will always exist "meta" builds that are more reliable at the task or outright have an easier time doing it than others.
