Played on my alt account after long time guess what steady high scores with mech that isn' t even maxed out and played with. I noticed:

It' s all about situational awareness. You develop this in time, maybe unconsciously.

The one with the superior situational awereness will level up, nomatter if the team performs bad.
The matchmaker? No, it' s you.

I now understand PGI develops it' s algorythms according to the development of players SA.

Riddle me this:

If situational awareness is something you develop over time, how come some people in Tier 1 (as we all know Tiers are an XP bar) either lack this key feature or are slow to use it? Also, how is a lack of or very poor S.A. considered "superior"

???

Matchmaking is not based on a player's mental capacity and neither are XP Tiers. In fact, it's laughable how easy it is just to break even or rank up.

I've got several mechs that will xp up with 8 clicks mostly on target regardless if I kill anything or even get a single scoring point other than damage.

The Skill-Delta that decides matches with Battlepower-Parity is generated by the MM so it is the MMs fault! ;)

Yes, situational awareness is one of the, if not the, most important skills a player can have.

No, PSR, and by extension the MM, does not have a way to properly measure this.

As I like to tell my (MS) mates who ask me how to get such high damage numbers in FP: "Be at the right place at the right time. The rest is simply a matter of pointing and clicking." ;)

New anon alt?

Whatever. I’m bored. I’ll bite.

I’m terrible at this game. My situational awareness typically consists of my trying to be the fastest/first to engage and to shoot at a single target until I die. If I survive, I switch to another target; etc. If I am in a mech that is a bit slower than the rest of the pack or if someone convinces me not to play in my normal fashion, I live a bit longer. I rarely survive a match. I am almost incapable -as in physically incapable...its like I can’t look down- at the damn paper doll 90% of the time, let alone notice other mechs than the one I am keyed up to shoot at. In short my situational awarness is that of a narrow tunnel with only one path to follow.

I’m tier 1.

You want to move up in tiers? Play the game long enough and even the most incompetent and most situationally blind will get to tier 1. As for the MM: it is an illusion or may as well be at this point. If my terribad self is at the “top” tier of play then it may as well not exist.

As long as you divide the delta by its square root, carry over the remainder and add it to the Parity³ it makes the most amount of sense of anything.

No.

It's 100% about the matchmaker.

If the matchmaker makes bad matches, nothing else comes remotely close to being able to offset that.

What's more, it's counter to the game's goals. The goal is fun. Even bad players can have fun if they're in a match they at least have a chance of winning. Conversely, good players rarely have fun clubbing seals.

So again, it's all about the matchmaker and the fact that the current matchmaker basically makes random matches.

That is why we should all campaign for PGI to retier all of us again.

When the concept of PSR is flawed and the only seeds that the MM have to use are flawed (i.e. T1 pilots that should really be in T5), then the whole matchmaking process is bad.
