Sometimes someone has a bad idea. "Everyone go under" on HPG, "lets just hold here" on any map, a lot of bad calls. However 12 players in 1 location is still better than 3 going down in HPG, 4 going top, 2 going around each side and 1 guy on the walls because he's a 733t snyper!

Drop calling in pug queue doesn't guarantee that the team will coordinate or work together. While everyone going under is better than splitting the team everywhere that's not really a far comparison to the average match that I'm in.

The whole team going under is worse than 1 person going under while the rest of the team nascars around the top. There's a trade off between staying together and using good strategy on a personal level. For example, I'm sure you would agree that having 11 players chasing after their lights just to stay together as a team probably isn't the best strat. Similarly, it's can be better to hold a good position while down a few mechs than to be grouped up in a bad position. Obviously, the best case is to have everyone group up in good positions, but that just isn't going to happen in most cases.

I wouldn't consider saying saying, "stay together" as drop calling, mostly just common sense.

Calling targets, is part of drop calling, but I wouldn't consider it the primary focus. That said, having the team focus the wrong target can be worse than having the team spread damage on the right targets (e.g. focusing the Commando while the enemy assault lance is burning your team down). With situational awareness, good information is useful, but bad information is detrimental. For example, saying, "there are only two mechs, push them" when it's actually the whole team can be very detrimental and likewise calling that the whole team is in a location when it's only a few mechs can also be bad.

While good drop calling is absolutely an advantage and I would say most drop calling is better than none, there are absolutely cases where drop calling is worse than no drop calling at all. Bad drop calling is actively detrimental to the team. You pose the situation as coordination vs a total lack of coordination, but that's not a fair comparison. Just because their isn't a drop call, doesn't mean the team won't deathball together anyway.

Honestly, if you know what you're doing it's better a lot of the time to ignore pug drop calls. I see this particularly in Conquest mode where the calls to cap points rather than kill targets would often lose matches if listened to.
