So imagine you are a MechWarrior, with a pocket full of cbills. At home is a partner you love and a couple of kids who you worship. You have to go out on a patrol with your lance, you get to choose any one of the battlemechs sitting in the hanger . . . Which one would you take to increase the odds that those kids see their dad / mother next week ?

if you had multiple secret families on different planets then you wouldnt have to wait as long to see at least some of your kids

In-game fictional hangars of what we currently have available or fanfiction "lore" hangars where anything is fair game? I actually have an answer to both, just "instructions unclear" sort of deal.

While an aging design compared to the new shiny chassis being spewed out over the Great Houses, the Warhammer has kept James "Noni" Riley safe from harm even during the clan invasion. Not much is known afterwards other than his Nova Cat was heavily damaged after Ian Dresari's assault on the palace, current status is listed as M.I.A.

James's youngest son, Thomas, was given the gold Warhammer as a gift for his 27th birthday (just after James's last lucrative contract that gave him and his lancemates an out from the mercenary business). Thomas then went on to Solaris 7, where he would compete each year with his new mech. Thomas went on to finish first in the Class Four (Heavy) arena five years in a row while coming a close second in Class Six (Open). They say his piloting skills rivaled that of Srin Odessa, although his father would just smile and say, "That's my boy.".

The only one my family owns, the one driven by my father and by his mother before him. I not only have to make it back alive, but that battlemech has to come back under it's own power lest my family drop into the ranks of the dispossessed and the desperate.

Fortunately, I have a Thunderbolt 5S. It is over 300 years old, barely an original part left on it, and has never failed to come home.

Or even a Pillager or a Stiletto with Guardian Angel ECM. Ahhh Los Tech.

Considering this happens in BT world, and not in a crazy world of MW games with free mechlab, i would take a Stalker, probably 3F. Heavily armored and armed for any possible scenario. Story of colonel Elliot Jemison from TRO is encouraging too.

I think i'm more likely to have a mech IRL than i am to have a wife and a kid

But if i had to, i'd take a Scorpion (because of course i would)
High mobility, great at taking cover and mostly meant to sit at long range.

it could use a bit more armor though.
