So I got the pirate's bane and loved it and was thinking about making a second locust. Honestly it will probably come off as a bit of a troll build so not sure how effective it would be.

I was leaning towards either the twin lrm locust, the 4 srm2 locust, some form of ballistic locust, or something a bit more trollish and have as many flamers as I can on a locust.
Basically I kind of want a second locust but I already have a good laser locust in the pirates bane and was thinking I want something else.

Honestly a build like that wouldn't be much threat to most of my heavy/assault mechs... I have however seen people be really stupid and stand still out in the open when a build like this is circling them instead of backing up to cover and turning their torso. (they are the ones that scream for help)

The IV is good if you can pilot it. Especially if you get another buddy or two and swarm one mech. Suddenly its like Battle of Endor where they're the hopelessly outnumbered cruisers being swarmed by hundreds of tie fighters as a big juggernaut that can mop the floor with them slowly approaches in the distance.

I've had that happen numerous times... Never happened in a match that I didn't win while still standing ;)

2x light PPC locust
1x ERLL locust with advanced zoom and all the range upgrades, piss off and distract a whole line from 1500m away.

1V will be your favorite troll. I want to add to what is above: Snub nose ppc.
Also. Consider using a STD engine for extra laughs. Just strip all the armor from arms and side torso, tada. done.

Next fun will be missile locusts: stack the srm2's in, and run around like a madman.
LRM locust won't be fun, for that I'd recommend the Raven 4x with 1 LRM20.
You can fit 2x mrm10 in the locust 1M, with at least a ton of ammo.

Locusts as a whole specialize more in light energy. The LRM5 Locust-3S just doesn't work, its not even annoying. the 3S is actually better off with SRM2s.

The Locust with the truest form is actually the V1, the one Toha Heavy Industries linked in post#2 but just not that build.

Quirks and tech has since changed, but the V1 was an evil little bastage with an ERLL. The native Cooldown quirks allowed it to rapid fire as fast if not faster then a MedLaser. It was a pain in the butt.

The Pirates Bane is an excellent mech with a great history, however, its not the end all laser skirmisher. If you want to experience true Locust laser power you'd have to run a 1M or 3M. Folks get spoiled hiding under their own ECM. You wanna locust properly? Strap 6 SPLs to your *** and go bite some ankles off.

Would LCT-1V be a worthwhile build? Possibly swapping the MPL for an SPL and another tonne of MG ammo

If you have (and enjoy) the Locust, might I suggest the Piranha? Quite a powerful 'mech to be only 25 tons.

1V used to be great fun when the Energy Cooldown was -50%, which was awesome with a Large Pulse Laser. As of today, it's still fun, but you're mostly better of with a ER Large Laser. As others stated, the 1V does also great with a large laser while using a standard engine. You just have to strip the armor from your arms and head, and also completely strip one side torso. Due to standard engine - you don't need it anyway. Put all 3 or 4 heatsinks in the other side torso. Remember to shield (torso twist) using your useless side first.

The 1V is not the only locust you can run perfectly fine with a standard engine: when using only small lasers, all locusts can be modified to a standard engine. Do note that you may have to shrink your engine slightly.

The Pirahna is 20 tons, not 25. I might also point out that the Pirahna is not a mech for beginners, it's even less tolerant of your mistakes than the locust is.

Everybody's next Locust is FLE-20. /thread

Kidding aside, the hardpoints are superior, but with weight being so handicapped my own Locust is COM-2D aka the Lyran protomech. Cannot speak to the Piranhas but they can be brutal in a fight. Will pick up Cipher when it is available.
