I agree. The clear solution is to stop friends playing MWO together.

On scouting, I honestly think nothing over 40 tons should be in scouting. If they wanted to do the mode right.

Embrace the game mode for what it is and not what you want it to be and you will enjoy it more.

This could said for this entire game. Once I got over the fact that there's really no MechWarrior lore in this game at all--and accepted it--I really started enjoying MWO for the strategic, shooty-tankbots, arena shooter game that it is. It's fun Posted Image

We had this discussion several times last night as a few clan players were complaining about BSW's and IS superiority.... I think I finally convinced a few players that Scouting is about how you use what you have and that tactics actually can change results.

The drop-in crew last night simply closed with the BWS's and lost 70% of the time in cold maps and 90% of the time on hot maps... I normally don't "lead" but I asked the 8 or so players we kept seeing to try a few things and it was amazing the results.... Like Sun Tsu said: "fight where you want to fight" so we, as a defacto unit, didn't close with the IS team and fought where we needed to fight based on the weapons........... They saw results that started to run in our favor and damage greatly increase in our favor. We anticipated AMS and ECM and had several matches where the IS guys "assumed" we'd play their game and got they clobbered.... One Clan player was furious that my HMM had an AMS until we ran into an IS team with LRM's......another where a Shadow Cat had ECM and that changed the dynamics.....

The morale: think, grow, evolve and then test your assumptions until you find a balance then, communicate that finding and the game grows.

Did you not know? Teamwork is an exploit and a reportable offense, especially in CW. Posted Image

You could use YOUR imagination and maybe imagine new ways to beat Clans.

Two easiest ways are;

Drop with three friends.

Talk to the other three.

Best part is, you do not have to do one to be able to do the other.

Beating Clans in Scout driving a Medium is cake unless you are playing Scout as if it were QP with 4.

Try teamwork for a change.

Friends OP, plz nerf!

Sometimes, there is more to just winning in video games, something like better game modes. Posted Image

You guys can have your boring "collect the thing nobody cares about"-fest mode as long as they add in a seperate dedicated small group mode for brawling. I adore Scouting because it's the only place where I can be guaranteed the enemy wants to brawl back, instead of hiding behind cover for two-thirds of every match.

Let's be honest, if the mode was specifically about collecting pylons and hiding from the enemy, it would be a ghost town. That's not engaging or intelligent gameplay, and I believe the people who think otherwise are in the extreme minority..

I don't know about you, but I'd rather scouting mode be an asymmetric game mode involving a small scouting force trying to gather intel on a map populated by a larger enemy force -- while at the same time being a component of an underlying planetary invasion campaign system.

What we have is not "scouting". It's a 4x4 arena drop completely divorced from all other 4x4 and 12x12 arena drops.

One thing we really don't need is another separated mode though. IMO some serious thought should be put into merging as much into one pool as possible. Less than 2000 players simultaneusly online is spread pretty thin over current modes already.

Well, at least someone else gets it.

Seriously its not even scouting its quickplay TDM with 4 mechs.. The whole thing isn't even scouting, its medium mech brawling..

Honestly with the heat jacked up in this game as is its horrible and tbh unbalanced Clan mechs screw over IS every match with insane missile damage and well why the hell are medium mechs even scouting...

Scouting should at least be all lights for at least immersion sense.. And can we at least get something to scout and not have brawling every match..

Its like these PG devs have zero imagination.. sorry but truth..

Did you just suggest Clans OP in scouting ? .... get gud.

Standing in squares doesn't give you much matchscore, usually players tend to alleviate this problem by shooting enemy mechs and do some damage.
Just saying...

I don't have an objection to a 4v4 brawl mode, I just wish there wasn't a competing objective and that the time to get into a scouting match generally didn't take longer than the actual brawl. Holistically the mode feels very shallow and slapped together.

1) I feel confident that PGI, in all of their decisions that they have ever made in this game, have never once, considered, thought of or understood the concept of “Holistically”. If there is a dev reading your post, they are looking up the word and still wondering what you are talking about here.

2) Shallow and slapped together? Well yeah. First it was the maps, then CW, then the QP modes, lets not forget some of the mechs models, and now its the animations. By PGI terms the shallow and slapped together feel of scouting is like a throwback to a more innocent time. Just embrace it and enjoy it for what it is: brawling then point hunt. Don’t think any deeper than that and you will be fine,

The best solution to that is most certainly not to change fun modes into ones that are simply not. "Scouting" is not actually about scouting. It's about small groups of smaller mechs duking it out.

MWO only has objectives because they give alternate win conditions to punish folks who refuse to engage at all, NOT to be the primary goal. The primary goal of this game is to fight big stompy robots with other big stompy robots, and if that's not why you're here, I have no idea what has kept you.

Uhh... alternate win condition that only applies to one team, making them capable of run away like little schoolgirls. Sounds like perfect way to make scenario that enforces an engagement. Hint: that useless scenario has little to do with the fact that scouting ends up in a good brawl. Relative firepower and speed makes that happen.

That's not true. I've never lost a scouting match when I've brought LRMs.

/edit Four Shadowcats with LRMs are unbeatable against IS brawl teams unless you really screw it up.

i played scouting for my last 20 or so matches, only needing 50 having completed all my 250 score bags. all but one of them had half the team throw the other half under the bus just so they could farm damage on crippled mechs at the end of the game. then they too would die because they didnt fight as a team. if invasion was a tater salad then scouting was mashed taters. because it seemed like a gathering place for all the pugs who weren't good enough to score in invasion. so the tactics have been quite dirty.

The simple answer to all the PUGS in scouting is that you can get 4-5 scouting games in the same time. With the bonus event it worth the time for scouting as you can get 5 loot bags in a quick time. I played for an hour and a half last night on my alt account and got about 50 bags. About 1 in 4 games I got the 250 match score,

Its really not possible to design a non-combat gamemode that is satisfying for both sides. One could do so in a PvE environment but sadly Crytek is heading towards the grave and available programing talent becomes ever more scarce by the day.

Also switching to lights would do nothing. It would just be Jenner IICs and Oxides instead of Huntsmen and Bushwackers.

It would at least make it a fast skirmish instead of relatively slow mediums smashing head first into each other.

It would also put more emphasis on those little beacons. In conquest you can lose by completely ignoring the objectives...in scouting you lose by if you don't ignore the objectives.

I don't know what folks think four on four brawling is what this mode should be. There are enough morons in quick play to run up to while mashing all of your buttons. So instead of interesting and diverse game play, we have the lowest form of battle with the lowest skill requirement possible. That it is so completely dependant on a couple of mechs and a couple of builds makes it so much worse.

On top of that, it is completely meaningless. Say what you want about long tom but when it was determined by scouting, actual decent players would go out and try and get or stop long tom. Now it is full of trash tier players running around happily facerolling their keyboards to victory. Outside of events, who is even playing this mode?

Four mechs trying to kill each other while doing 120+ is something much, much different than what we have now. It would be something that I would be interested in doing, but likely I will have to wait for Solaris. There would also be a lot more diversity in a mode that right now has like what, four or five mechs you see.

Another thing that really bothers me, is when you look up at the launch screen button and see that lights are 9-15% all of the time. People seem to freak out if a light is actually able to kill something. Except out of love, there really is no reason for me to run a light. Most times mediums on the lower end of the tonnage do the job much, much better. So this was a blown opportunity to have a spot where lights and speed could really shine on their own.

I dunno those huntsmen are pretty damn op...

Ah, the mech you have is decent but its build is suicidal. Huntsmen have a bit more firepower over the Bushwackers usually if they bring 6 ASRM6, but they'll just lose out because of lower sustainability and lacking armor.

Which variant of the Bushwacker do you have? Here's the best you can get for scouting.

You could also run it balanced out, just make sure you don't put any ammo in your legs.

This is where I disagree... I can't think of any sensible pilot that would ever bring the "Walking CT" to a scouting match. Clanners at least would likely be intelligent enough to bring an ACH, or even an ADR.

This so-called "standing in squares" currently does not reward much precisely because of all the loud and incessant whining by big crybabies who lost to others playing to the modes' objectives. People stopped doing so because of the massive reduction in rewards that was a result of said loud and incessant whining by big crybabies who lost to others playing to the modes' objectives.

im not quite sure about that. i seemed to score 250+ in 3 out of 4 invasion games, but maybe 1 out of 10 scouting games. you cant just account for game time, you also have to factor in waiting time (like when the capping team kills you off and spends every remaining second looking for nodes). waiting for one match simply takes less time than waiting for four of them. i only played scouting to get those 50+ bonuses, only one of those made 250+ out of about 20 games. invasion matches are also somewhat more lucrative (especially with all that premium time). i also found the invasion games a lot more fun.
