According to lore, IS did their try to "compact" the Fusion Engine, Gyro and Heat Sink for smaller size but bigger mass (around 50% in both factors).
Do you want to see and use this kind of hardware in MwO, like XL Gyros and Small Cockpit from another thread?
For interested:
So far, only IS is using this tech and Archangel and Wight mechs are known to use CEF.

5 months and not a single "no"... I'd say this is probably a good idea. (I voted yes back when this was first posted)

Thanks. I didn't posted the example, now I'll fix that.
Let's just say we have a 20t STD engine (it's example).
LFE would drop 1/4th of the STD tonnage, giving 15t (and 2 crits in each side torsos taken).
XL - 1/2th of STD tonnage - 10t, (4 crits in both side torsos)
XXL - 2/3th of STD tonnage - ~6.5t, (but 8 crits in both side torsos, probably Clans would feel the IS XL curse aka side torso destruction means death)
CFE - 4/2th of STD tonnage - 30t (but no crits taken in side torsos like with STD, but it frees two crits in CT, giving 4 free slots in CT).
That would mean that only Heavy and Assault Mechs could get the biggest profit of using CFE (that's my opinion of course).

Sounds like something for PGI to consider for the inevitable Jihad update. I'm game for all that tech. MMLs, XL Gyros, that kinda stuff. I can think of a few Mechs that'd benefit from them...

That needs to wait at least until Clans have the HAG, and ATMs have their minimum range removed.

HAG's were created in 3068, so besides it I would eagerly see IS Plasma Rifle, MML (Multi Missile Launcher), Heavy Flamer & Light Autocannons.
HMG and LMG are also from 3068, but PGI already introduced them.

People do realize this all "saves crit space" but makes everything "heavier"? There are very few situations where this tech would actually be helpful in this game, where everyone is trying to squeeze more stuff per ton, typically working within the crit limitations by taking heavier weapons that utilize fewer crits (such as ACs).
Besides a desire to see some mech designs that may use this tech being added into the game, I don't see any other purpose for it on the grand scheme of things.
AKA: Having a Gyro or Engine taking up fewer crits by weighing more would hinder it's crit padding abilities. The compact heat sink is the only one I can kinda see, but it would in the end be three tons for two single heat sinks (in a single crit slot). Only other advantage I can see from a compact Gyro and Engine is the possibility of more crits to work with in your CT, which most mechs it wouldn't be worth the weight cost.
At best, I could see this helping zombie mechs by granting additional crit slots to the CT for some mechs. Something like a (really slow) Centurion with dual LLs in the CT (take the AL...) or a Zeus/Atlas (being really slow) being able to take a PPC or even double large... but the weight probably wouldn't be worth it in this game.

And got my first "nope" for idea.
Yes, I've mentioned that it'll trade volume for mass in equal proportion of 50%.
Like I said, mostly Heavies and Assaults could use this kind.
Maybe I should think about Fission Engine. Radioactive cloud after boom, hmm...

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea if it was implemented, I just don't see much actual benefit for the game overall.
Besides to permit more mechs into the game that utilize this tech stock, which I am of the belief we still have plenty of mechs that don't that can still be placed into the game, I just don't think it would be taken besides in very niche situations. Even then, those niche situations probably could be out done with our current options within the game.
A piece of tech I think would be more vital to the game even as a "placeholder" doing nothing... C3 gear*. So many mechs in era with even low tech that takes it, but we can't include those mechs/variants in this game currently.
I know of the Crab 30 that I would love to have, can't get it in the game because of C3. It's a Crab with ECM too...
Blackwatch has C3, and it appears like it's on all of it's variants.
Centurion D5 would be a Centurion with MASC, which certainly could be interesting.
That's just the ones I can find quickly with C3 that could introduce something new for a Chassis (such as the Centurion, which could use some new tricks).
*C3 could even grant some interesting abilities, such as increasing target decay when equipped on a mech. Then, you could even have it where, if you have C3 and your ally has C3 and a lock, then it would count as though you had direct line of sight yourself, for such abilities like Artemis (for example). Could this be good? No idea. Just an idea.
