Somebody out there needs to stop failing to pre-announce Events. (Yeah, I'm looking at you, Matt Newman, if it was you starting this one off.) I'm late again due to lack of Advance Warning that should always be present for everyone to be able to get in from the start. Enough time without Advance Warning wasn't provided either. Add on top of the lack of Warning that by the time I found out, half the time in the Challenge is gone. This sounds to me like a "We're going to throw the Community by making many of them not realize they missed something until it was too late." kind of Challenge situation. And from what I can tell, there's no respect for a certain chunk of Time Zones who would be in Sleep Mode during this. *facedesk* -_-

4.5/10

Now excuse me... I've got an IRL problem to deal with, and having been TeamKilled recently after calling for help in a match has broken my ability to go in-game on MWO. Frankly, I begin to think I might be justified about finally quitting, the way this game keeps devolving. <_<

Still a thread full of cry babies, finished the event, didn't need any warning, didn't need trial mechs, just played some fun little MG builds and it's over. Thank you PGI.

It's called Challenge, not easy freebies.

This event made me realise that...

...I don't have enough MG mechs!

I went thru the thread... amazing the amount of whine over 100 MC... do or do not, there is no whine!

I'm having fun with this, and I think it serves a useful purpose pre-Pirhana.

For the players who are going to get the Pirhana and think it's useless - this gives them lots of experience in how other people can make MGs useful, and some practice. It also helps remind them that the other Clan MG carriers can be literally dis-armed, and the Pirhana can't.
For the players who are going to scream PIRHANA OP PLZ NERF! It is going to give them some high-intensity practice in dealing with other MG carriers, including BJ-As, SHCs, etc., so that they realize that the Pirhana is within normal bounds for a MG carrier (including not having any longer range options).

I suspect it's also going to give them some useful data about how IS is much less efficient at using MGs due to the higher weapon weight and lack of hardpoints, and this might point us towards a Vulcan or something similar in the near future (6+ MGs, high maneuverability, JJs, 30-35 tons).

It does favour certain mechs...blackjack arrow, lynx-g, bushwacker x1, spider-k, its the silly ones I'm worried about... 6 MG king crabs and maulers... if you're gonna chase 50MC and a useless hanging item, don't handicap the team using a troll assault build.

Don't forget the 8xMG Ultraviolet! Posted Image

So this is the reason for all the unity forsaken MG boats! For Unity's sake! Those things are insanely OP! NERF THEM! NERF THEM HARD! Like I don't care if they do a bit more damage, But the crit chance needs to drop by more then half! a .50 cal wouldn't be able to tear through Battle-mech armor like tissue paper (and yes it dose no matter what you people say) And most Mech weapons wouldn't be destroyed by a .50 cal. They are Anti infantry weapons. NOT ANTI MECH! and before you say it. A10's gun is NOT a 50 cal. look it up. and even if it was, BT Armor is much stronger then current armor. so even an A10's gun couldn't go through it.

Still, could we please (pretty please, with cherry on top) get some advance notice next time?

This challenge isn't too hard to accomplish. I think it took me about an hour to complete both the Clan and IS challenges. Finally the Raven Butt Huggin was useful for somethimg.

The whole battletech universe is highly illogical. Comparing BT with any real world logic makes not much sense. To enjoy the lore you need to abandon everything you know about engineering and physics.

But for the sake of argument let's compare BT to reality anyway:
So even if Battlemech machine guns are .50 cal like you suggest, why do you assume they use the same ammo as our real-world weapons do?
What if it's the ammo construction that penetrates the mech, and not the caliber?

For example take tank-ammo. We developed lots of different shell types (HEAT, Sabot, APCR/HVAP, HESH/HEP) to deal with advancements in tank-protection (sloped-, spaced-, reactive armor, ect.). Modern tank ammo can penetrate much stronger armor than WWII ones of the same caliber did. So why shouldn't future shells be able to penetrate even better armor like the ones Mechs would use? The caliber is only one of many variables.

And btw why do you even argue about penetrating armor? MGs only crit when the armor is already gone, so they just need to penetrate the much weaker structure to destroy vital components like weapons. Totally imaginable even with today's realistic guns.

But all this is totally irrelevant because a competitive game's balance don't care about such lore details. What count's is if the weapon is overperforming or not, but not how realistic or true to the lore it is.

This event are affecting the gameplay... We are having too much MG fest and piranha is not even out yet.
I suppose, we will see LMG/HMG challenge as well. I think that criteria should be lowered, so that you could complete it in one good or two bad matches. And for the IS side it should be twice less (You know, IS don't have any really good equivalent to MLX-G in boating MGs)

And yet, in TT and Lore, MG's are very effective anti-mech weapons, especially en mass and there's several mechs and vehicles that do so.

Infact, Machineguns aren't inline with the other weapons for damage output.
They should have the same damage output as an AC2 (so 2.78dps, instead of 1dps. With HMG being 4.17dps and LMG 1.39dps)

I had several very fun and dynamic matches with those swarms of lights yesterday. Makes me wonder how all-light lance will fare in HBR's Battletech given they never ever stop moving.

The event was kinda fun. I had a few very weird matches. Arctic Cheetah with MGs worked well... for IS Mechs... I tried my Locust PB with stealth armor, which kinda worked... just took a lot longer than the Clan part.

As for the event system not being clear enough... everytime we had weapon groups counting it was mentioned specifically.
If they had started with LMG or HMG followed by MG, it would have been clearer though.

What I really dislike are the following three things:
- The time from announcement to start... usually I think it should be the other way around... announce it first, then start the event. But that is just me Posted Image
- The required damage for IS and Clan are the same, the options are not. Myst Linx and Arctic Cheetah compared to something like the Annihilator (I wouldn't have it thought possible to see that many MG Annihilators). At least the Annihilators could fight back... So for the future it would be great if the minimum amount of damage dealt with specific weapons would be according to the weapons potential AND the hardpoints available on mechs that usually use that type of weapon.
- No Trials which can be used for the event is making me sad Posted Image I had the lights (Arctic Cheetah and Locust PB... should have taken one without stealth armor but more ballistics) so I am not complaining about not being able to do the stuff. It just seems strange. For other events (besides the AC challenge I think) there were usable trials. Hope that will be "fixed" for future events after this daily event run Posted Image

There is exactly ONE champion mech which could have been sorted into the trial rotation options with MGs anyway and that's the Spider.

I think the plan was to gather data on the MG's prior to a nerfadjustment in the patch, and also to make today's challenge a cbill sink for people chasing the MC since a locust 1v costs nearly 1.4 million cbills and the mist lynx G will be about 5.7 million (between buying the mech and then changing 8 HMGs to MGs).

From the UrbanMech thread...

Well played, PGI!

Many Clanners will be looking to buy a cheap MG mech for today's challenge... Urbie R60 has 4B hardpoints and costs only 1.5 million!

Slap a STD 180 in there, don't *need* DHS, 4 MG, 3t ammo 2 JJ, 4 SHS, 2 ML for backup... Ready to rock for just around 3million cbills!

...Next thing you know the clanners will realize what they are missing and cry out for U-IIc like the rest of us!!!

EDIT: came out to about 3.3 Million CBIlls with Endo/Ferro and some more SHS
