I just tried launching the updater and it is giving me an error of " Caught an exception doing a version check. Unable to connect to remote server".

Just worked 2 days ago.
Anyone know how to fix this? It brings up the launcher window but it just hangs when trying to do anything.

Thanks!

Starting up with MWO portal, or with MechWarriorOnline.EXE?

Does it work if you use MechWarriorOnline.EXE?

Possible patching issue, maybe? It'll patch if necessary using the other EXE.

that will happen if your DNS isn't resolving properly.

- ping google.com
- ping 8.8.8.8

see if something is wonkey there....

Just tried to launch from the EXE 64 bit, got to the login page, then got a servers are updating error.

Pinged google.com, and was 17ms, no errors.
8.8.8.8 was 17ms no errors as well

Seems something may have been corrupted with a patch that happened last day or two?

I just remembered about the repair tool, so trying that atm.

I'm not aware of any recent patches.

Wow, tried to run the repair tool: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 70.96.0.80:80
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)

Am I going to have to re-download and install this entire game again.....

I don't think so, I think you need to run a tracert and see if your ISP is having a peering issue with PGI's colocation provider.

I put a support ticket in, did the traceroute and ping, and tried to reset my IP and DNS, all to no avail. Connection was spot on. Everything else works perfectly, except MWO now....

Just suddenly started getting a Portal issue, myself. I built myself a desktop, though I've wound up continuing to use my laptop more often. Today is patch day for the Warhammer IIC, but I don't think that has anything to do with my issue. The desktop works perfectly, and the issue is only on the laptop, which also worked perfectly, yesterday.

Today, I start the client, and it takes forever (up to three minutes) to load the Patch/Play button. The last few times, it pops up the error "Error in GetRemoteVersion()." Once the Patch button comes up, the estimated time increases until it hits 24 hours, then it flips over and keeps counting up.

Haven't tried anything apart from restarting my computer so far, to no avail.

look at my profile kid. You do you, I'm just saying from a user end perspective running the game via steam is much less hassle.

Just use Steam... the Portal sucks.

For me, it just hangs/freezes up every time I try to patch.. be it the game or PTS..

This patch just bricked my MWO portal too. I'm now getting "Caught an exception doing a version check. Unable to connect to remote server" similar to OP. Repair tool is giving me a similar error.

Well I fixed everything. For anyone still receiving "Caught an exception doing a version check. Unable to connect to remote server" on Windows 10. Right click network > open network & internet settings > network reset > reboot. Simply rebooting didn't work but this did.
