<- Unemployed Film Maker just waiting for BT fans to throw money at him so that he can finance his passion project and create a viable, good and justifiable BT Movie.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but...

The source for that was an unconfirmed rumor relayed by Joystiq. The company supposedly involved doesn't actually list it on their website... either the rumor was bogus or the project was canceled.

Unfortunately...

This news tells me that even after making my own models, doing my own animations, and attempting to animate my own storyline... I'll just be hit with a cease and desist order regardless of the fact that such videos could potentially attract more customers to the Topps company for Battletech merchandise, because Topps doesn't want us to have Battletech things.

o.o;

Though it could be possible it is due to the presence of the Marauder.

Will see. Right now mine contains Blackjack, Scorpion (no, not the tank though that'll come later), Battlemaster, Flea, and an original security mech at the moment.

Scorpion is a questionable bugger but my attempt is a mix of new and old art, will see.

No. Two different things - Topps is the current holder of rights to Battletech, the company suing anything that remotely looks like an Unseen is Harmony Gold.

I know, but on the link one commenter supposed that since Topps/Catalyst is in a legal battle with Harmony Gold, anything that has the Unseen that Harmony Gold could attack and then slaps "Battletech" on weakens Topps' position in that legal battle.

And thus, the cease and desist order.

Seems like the kind of idea that netflix would gamble on for their originals series content.

It's fairly standard for companies to issue C&D for content that uses their trademarks without permission. In fact, the trademark laws basically force them to do so unless they're willing to risk loss of control over the trademark itself.

Topps owns the rights to make a show? Don't they make cards and stuff? They should workout a deal with Netflix. Hire a decent Korean animation studio. Use western writers. Get whoever directed JLU and Young Justice since they clearly know how to make good shows. And put it up as a Netflix original. Topps makes money off it, Netflix gets original content, and we finally get a new Battletech show.

As cool as we all think it would be to have a live action show. They wouldn't have enough budget to make it good. So much more you can do with animation.

It says it was in development in 2009. I doubt its gonna happen.

I would honestly rather they did a show. More character development, can touch on all corners of the galaxy... much better.

For a franchise that nobody wants to do anything with, there sure is a lot of legal turmoil surrounding MechWarrior and BattleTech..

You'd think it was Star Trek or something.

That's basically one of the two big reasons no one wants to touch the franchise.

If a private mining group betrayed me like that, I would systematically wipe out their mining facilities and take my payment in whatever loot and salvage was lying around after...
