Your argument is the same as someone saying that its okay to fire at his teamates.

Apples and oranges bud.

My code idea simply encourages people to be ready as they should, and takes care of the extremely frequent cases of 'AFK for a few seconds up to 2 mins', which people dont report, and that the report system will never fix.

So in the extremely frequent cases of life outside the game world happening. Okay. PSA to PuGs: Game is more important than that package you ordered a couple weeks ago or your boss wanting you to come into work.

If you're afraid of getting penalties because of it, then the problem is you, not my idea.

I don't care about penalties because i never AFK for the most part anyway. (unless packing in a lip after the dropships leave or making a drink during queue time). The problem you fail to realize is that sh*t sometimes happens in the middle of the match and there shouldn't be a penalty for something that was completely out of your own control. That's just dumb.

yea, waiting on the match maker sucks. but i dont think the maps are cut out for it. it would be like fp where you can end up with endless spawncamp. you would need bigger maps and cappable fire bases so all you need to escape a stalemate is a light to go out and cap another firebase. think onslaught from ut.

Bigger and better maps were implied in that suggestion, of course.

Hmm, if bigger maps are on the table... a really crazy idea for a massive FP overhaul is if they made a huge Battlefield-style map with a series of small bases to be captured (and you could have variants where some/all of the bases start neutral). And your dropdeck instead of beimg one-and-done would have some kind of resource pool that allows you to drop the same mech multiple times, but some mechs cost more than others (crib Battle Value from TT, at least in name?). Dropship waves would probably still be the same, but they wouldn't drop at contested bases. Capping would probably be sequence locked since back-capping lights or one light "contesting" every base to prevent drops would be obnoxious.

Of course that would probably make FP take forever and a day longer than it already does, and this is all just crazy rambling since we'll never see something like that.

A thousand times, this. I hope to god someone at PGI reads this, and takes Uhtred the Pagan's stance as just another half baked opinion. This place has what, 4-10 thousand "active" players? Taking a stance that is effectively "if you're not hardcore, we'll run your sorry *** out of town!" is only asking to chase away players.

Just a week or two ago I started a match to test out a the Mad Cat MK II package I just bought, and not 30 seconds into clicking Quick Play my 3 year old decided he NEEDED to come in and play with daddy and started pulling cables out of my desktop (including the power cable). Poof, a 90 ton AFK or disconnected mech in a match somewhere.

As a casual player... I try to play as often as I can. But if my son, or my family, or my work, or some other piece of the rest of my life suddenly comes up... it will almost always trump a video game. If an AFK mech in your match, especially public quick play matches, is such a life disrupting event for you... personally I think a serious life assessment is in order.

as a relatively new player (only started in Dec, since I finaly got a PC even able to run the game) I would have to be against it. I am sort of live in aid for my grandmother who needs help getting in and out of bed not to mention a myriad of other things. just the other day I was playing and she needed my help so I had to step away from the game. when I came back oddly enough no one had destroyed me (was sort of out in the open just asking an enemy to blast me). I simply apologized for being AFK for so long and got back to the game.

life happens.

I'd rather QP is replaced by a long-running "endless war" game mode where a dead or AFK player is replaced by someone else waiting on the queue.

Your choice of weapons and their ammo requirements, if any, are on you.

How much ammo do you bring in Community Warfare?

Mr Pagan, I have seen you around. I thought you were a chill guy?

I must apologise in advance then for any match in which I am on your team.

Heh..
This thread reminded me of the first time I ever heard Howard Stern quote his father..
"Don't be stupid, you morons."

Thanks for the memory..
