theyre not atlases though

the point is for the atlas to make a comeback

You want the Atlas to make a comeback by giving it a loadout that doesn't resemble that of an Atlas. Might as well make Awesomes have a comeback by boating Machine Guns or Jagermechs boating SRMs.

By Krensky's hairy backside, NO!

Super heavy mech are bad, bad, BAD!

The fastest that thing would go, would be around 32km/h with a 280 series engine... it would never be able to out run a Dire Wolf... he'll a Dire Wolf could out run it!

Given how some hero mechs are inferior to stock builds, I think much of the attraction is +30% c-bills. PGI could make some $ by MC-only or cash-only add-ons. Buy a Crab standing item, equippable on Crabs only, and get +15% C-bill earnings with that mech while equipped. Only 2,500 MC.

FupDup, did you forget the 4M Jagermech (JM6-A) was a thing?

As for that quad Gauss ANH, it wouldn't work. That's "Only" a 30 by 30 mech due to two gauss charge rule, not to mention the lack of ammo, speed, common sense, and lack of penetration-even 60 pinpoint can't crack properly armored Atlas STs.

They absolutely need to increase the total amount of heroes.

They release a decent Atlas hero I will buy it.

They release a better Highlander hero I will buy it.

and many many more.

I've not taken my Boar's Head or my Heavy Metal out of their mechbays for a long long time.

It's called the Annihilator and Fafnir.

You forgot Mauler and the Slepnir....
And so?
Because we have already some twin ballistics 'Mech, we can't have an Atlas one?
Better have another Hero that use the same hardopoint location like the seven others I imagine, with ballistic in the RT and missile in the LT with some lasers on the CT or in the arms...
Wow
We just have like every possible configuration of that type on Atlases, a Hero that follow that scheme will be pointless, not worth the $$$, IMO.
Why we can't have a dual AC/20, UAC/20, LB/20-X AC. UAC/10, AC/10, GR, HGR Atlas?
This varian can bring it to a new life, because as you can see, not many people use this Mech these days.

Let me try this from another angle.

We already have several dual-big-ballistic assault mechs on the Inner Sphere side that all compete for the same thing (Mauler, Cyclops, Nightstar, Annihilator, upcoming Fafnir). Adding another one only makes balance harder because every mech is trying to fulfill the same role. When every mech does the same thing, the ones with the best innate attributes (hitboxes, hardpoint locations, etc.) will rise to the top.

Furthermore, it does absolutely nothing to help all of the existing Atlas variants that don't have that capability. You wouldn't be making the Atlas as a whole relevant, you'd only make a single real-money variant relevant while the rest remain mediocre.

That's the logic people use to justify things like the Purifier (objectively superior to C-Bill Kit Fox variants). That's not balance. That's the death of balance.

On a more serious note, while the Atlas could use better hard points, what would be infinitely more useful would be making the Atlas the 'agile' 100 tonner. Having more ballistics isn't going to change the fact that the Atlas is a big, fat bullet magnet that's too slow to shield with it's big meaty arms and who's ballistics are hip mounted,.

I think it would be reasonable to make it a little more agile than it is now, but I'll agree that people who want it to be as agile as a medium mech (that's not hyperbole, somebody reputable has actually suggested that!) have lost their marbles.

Why not? What are you basing that on?

I wouldn't say as agile as a medium - It should just be the most agile 100 tonner. Make it the big bad brawler that can actually twist and shield, and track targets, rather then the 100 tonner with bad hard points, bad hit boxes and nothing to show for it but a couple armor quirks that hardly seem to matter because of how easy its components are to isolate.

common sense

in lore the atlas was so unagile they had to give it backwards firing weapons lol. The atlas has always been a bulky cumbersome mech. Its never been more agile than other assaults, except for maybe the annihilator.

if we go by lore, the kodiak should be the most agile 100 tonner, instead of the least agile 100 tonner. the kodiak was built specifically to be a fast agile assault. PGI has turned it into the complete opposite.

the problem is PGI couldnt come up with a better way of balancing clan battlemechs. So the kodiak sadly has to remain nerfed.

all assaults should actually be able to twist and shield. thats why assault survivability took a nosedive because PGI made them so unagile they couldnt torso twist. its one of the big reasons engine desync was such an unmitigated disaster.

the baseline agility of all assaults needs to be increased.

but the atlas isnt a special snowflake when it comes to agility. the only thing extra the atlas needs beyond the baseline agility buff all assaults should get is increased torso pitch. because 16 degrees is crap for a mech with mostly torso based weapons.

The Atlas was given rear facing weapons because that's just what they did during that time at FASA. The Zeus, one of the early 'fast' Assaults, had rear facing weapons as well. It's not special in that regard.

What makes the Atlas special compared to the other 100 tonners present in MWO, from the lore, is that it's the only one confirmed to be a melee fighter. The Annihilator, Fafnir and Daishi don't even have hands, and the Kodiak's claws are just for show. While the Atlas is not only designed for it, but it's been confirmed that it can slug it out with the best of them, and there are in-universe rumors that it can actually pick up other mechs and throw them. That, to me, implies a great deal of dexterity and agility, as immobile bricks rarely when brawls without being swung hard and fast.

I'm unaware of anything in the lore saying the Atlas is ponderous or lacking in agility.

Of course, that's all secondary to the fact that the Atlas needs something in its favor, seeing as it's the most useless piece of garbage in the 100 tonner category currently by a substantial margin. Upping its agility and making it more potent in slugfest makes sense from a lore perspective, a balance perspective, and a MWO specific 'role' perspective.

I don’t know about more hero’s but I would love to se more variants of existing mechs, like the dragon there are only three mechs but now we could have the Grand Dragon variants with the time jump.
