Just returned back to MWO and back with Clan Ghost Bear.

All week my team has been getting steam rolled by IS!

Whats the deal? Am I playing at a bad time? Did we get nerf bat....or do all the IS games have premades?

I am not horrible but this never winning is killing my fun. About to join IS so I can club seals!

At this point in the game balance is fairly close, considering tonnage and quirks on the IS side. Add that at this point in time almost every team worth fighting is on the IS side.. Yer gonna get hurt and have to play better :)

And what unit/team is this?

You aren't playing at a bad time, you are just not playing good enough... That is the difference.

Lots of Teams are IS right now. It's a great time to be clan. Anytime I'm on it's insta-drops and teams to go munch on, and munching there is. Clan is still strongest (IMO). However you have to know how to play to the strengths and expose the weakness (of IS).

Same as it's always been.

Have rarely lost a game, maybe one 1 in 20 and been Clan for 4 weeks now?

Agreed! Tough to play and get better when your "team/PUG" is running one by one to a slaughter leaving you to fight 12 vs 3 or 4 that did actually stick together. I basically get alpha team con wrecked as the tidal wave rolls over.

Sorry guess I am venting. Maybe I should find a team cause PUG is never a good thing.

Would be nice if the game pitted team vs team(or something close to it) and PUG vs PUG. I feel horrible working so much and having a team carry me despite me being a decent player. I know they will be a LOT better due to my time factor.

Oh well...see you all in game. It is a fun game, just be nice to win once in a while.

Time isn't necessary to join a unit. Most units are "pop in, play when you can." The advantage is that you'll log in and have friends to drop with when you do have time to play.

I think some of the myth new players need to get over is that playing with a team requires some immeasurable amount of commitment or obligation. That being said.. finding the right team *can* take a bit of work and is daunting at first.

I think some of our more senior forum contributors convey an idea that it should be easy to drop in with a great team and suddenly start winning 95% of your FW drops.

Notice I used "I think" a lot as everyone's mileage is going to vary... that all being said, DO drop in to some of the community teamspeak servers and find some like minded folks to drop with.

I would suggest finding like-minded people who are looking for people to play with during your drops in FP. As long as you have decent skills(I would think 1k dmg on average as a minimum), people would be willing to drop with you for FP. I used to drop solo on this account for FP and got tired of getting rolled by premades vs pugs. Now I drop with regulars on the IS side and we do quite well. You don't need to have a unit to drop in a group, just make yourself known on the battlefield and people will drop with you.

Well you're spot on : Based on February 3rd war logs, it's been 45 Clan losses out of 50 games so far, there is no "good time" to play available the whole day, and that's exactly what it felt like for most of this whole week.

The problem seems to be that there doesn't seem to be a single group of IS randoms available : It's been ~100% between landing on a IS unit or landing on a IS ~12-man group.

You might not notice it if you're dropping in a ~12-man or a unit yourself, but it's a complete and permanent one-sided disaster if you're dropping on your own.

Maybe it's because the Clan units have gotten so frustrated with the non stop piling up of Clan nerfs, that they went IS in an attempt to put an end to that streak of Clan nerfs ?

I mean my Clan MDD-H build has been nerfed 5 times in the last 3 patches (including the latest Clan wide skill tree nerf), and it's not even a popular mech to begin with (for good reasons)...

As of 5:35pm est Clan has won ten, to the IS's five.

BCMC are Clan at the moment, and most of Evil as well. 420 is mostly Clan.

There is a good chance that you have been unlucky a whole lot, and not had the chance to be carried by some of the units I mentioned.

Either way it is your perspective that is off, and Clan mechs still enjoy superior firepower and cooling. IS enjoys weight and an incredible amount of armor through quirks.

There are very, very few good players who actually believe that IS, is overpowered.

Well as a fact that still ends February 3rd with 50 clan losses out of 65 matches for everyone (77% loss rate). And in my limited perspective it has been like that ~5 out of 6 days this week, and I'm assuming Sunday will follow that trend.

And I squarely blamed that on the Matchmaker feeding solo players to (an excess amount of) units and ~12 man groups : There's a problem to be solved about being able to cram a full 12 players in a single group, when MWO doesn't feature separate queues for grouped players and solo players.

And the more solo players are put off from playing invasion mode, the more likely the remaining solo players are likely to drop on ~12 man groups : This week that problem reached a peak level.

Relevant solutions :
- Limit the maximum group size to less then 12 players.
- Remove ~5T per grouped player from the maximum Deck weight (that's 210T instead of 265T for a full 12-man IS group).
- Reduce the total amount of players from 12 players to ~10 players in invasion teams with grouped players (that's 12 solo players vs 10 grouped players).

Completely irrelevant solution that doesn't fix anything :
- Change faction balance with nerfs and boosts.

Wow.

Well then an equally relevant solution would be to eliminate solo's not groups.

Even more so since the mode was tailor made for groups.

The weight gimping is also off the table because it has been done in group queue already. This is the place for those twelve man's to fight. So if solo's can't handle that, then they should either group up or play quick play.

It goes back to your perspective. You are a pug and want to be able to have success while remaining a pug. As you can imagine, units have a much different perspective. Especially since they are limited everywhere else, CW needs to remain the only place units can play together without being gimped as well as being able to play together in mechs they enjoy.

Oh and again as I wrote this, Clan is third bar in and war log shows 8 clan wins for every IS win.

Groups I dropped with tonight only lost 1 match, and we were only five against 228 (8-10?).

So it seems that the vast majority of losses are due to pug groups. So what you need to do is group up with a team, or for the good of the game, play quick play on Sunday.

We're trying to take a planet here....

You do need a different game mode. Playing as a group doesn't need a nerf. You just don't like getting thrashed by players and teams that are better than you and your team, which is understandable.

- You do less than 500dmg while dropping as a solo player, you get banned for a month from FW.

sadly not enough players for either the "make two separate sections for Teams and Pugs" or the "ban all Solo from FP". personally I thing the second is the most horribly idiotic idea I have every heard for the problem. not everyone wants to go to a secondary site to find a group or even have the hardware to run both the game and a secondary program (like TS) just for their group chat. I know I don't. cutting the majority of the games population from a game mode is just stupid in all ways. PGI simply needs to get more players interested in the game. still doesn't fix the 12-man vs PUG problem.

then again I always hate the elitist mindset in any game. i'm a solo but I play with the team as best I can. don't have the time or patience to deal with finding a group or do I want to deal with the "oh you don't use only these mechs, you don't use this Meta, or you haven't played long enough" bull **** that I have to deal with when looking for a group. I just want to have fun win or lose I don't care as long as I feel I did well and enjoyed the game. that means you will very rarely see me using a Meta build unless its just something that works well with that particular mech and its something I enjoy.

mind you I will say that for the most part folks in game chat are more friendly than you find in other games but here on the forums its a whole nother story.

any fixes would require a higher population (nerfs not needed in my opinion) and QP can only hold a new players attention for so long before they say "hey I want to try something new". that inevitably leads them to FP for the rewards you can get. next thing they know its 5 steam rollers in a row and they simply say f this game and leave entirely. perhaps giving new players a few more mech bays at the start, say 2 extra would help. so that if they say get one Clan and one IS mech as their first 2 they aren't screwed over for getting 4 mechs to run FP (yes I know you can sell mechs and buy bays for real cash but most new players aren't going to want to do that). personally I always liked the feel of IS mechs but that's just me. hell I dipped my feet in FP with 2 custom mechs and 2 trials with the obvious outcome. thankfully instead of the hatred I would have gotten here on the forums I got calm friendly advice from more than one player on the team. so I stayed out of FP till I had 4 mechs I thought would do well. perhaps a chat lobby just for finding a group would help so you don't have to go outside the game (which most new players would know nothing about and many never even think to look at forums, only reason I did was because I was bored one day).

sorry for the rambling all over the place but that's my 2 creds on the matter.
