However I think the problem is not the game mode, as poorly executed as is it but the player base that appears to favour kills and damage over everything. To the point when people are grinding C bills they still don't chose Conquest which would net the the most as a example of the this not really being the thinking persons shooter.
I have seen escort games where given the choice of shooting and enemy far away or the VIP mech closer and in the open a player basically decided to shoot the player, I have watched a defending team camp at the citiadel in River City while the VIP mech strolled across the bridge (I was in that game trying to defend the VIP mech from 6 other mechs in a wolfhound with a MAD-IIC by my side )
I have seen a team (luckily I was in that team) run round the back of the Forest and get get a kill on the VIP with just two of the team getting killed. Strategy on escort is interesting it is harder in PUGs and you are limited by the sometimes stupid routes the VIP takes for example it appears not to care that it is walking into an ambush but neither does the defensive team most of the time.
You can play chess like chess or you can play it like you would checkers. sometimes we just cannot blames the game we should really blame the players
