This dead horse again? Super...
I love how there seems to be the general opinion that MWO was supposed to have and/or currently has anything that would resemble an end game. It doesn’t nor was it ever supposed to.
In order to have an end game, you need a true motivation – a cause – to play. Right now we just play to play. Gameplay is just as mindless as the original shooters like Doom, Unreal, and Quake. You play just for the sake of blowing up giant robots with lazors, or to collectively stroke your e-peen in comp play.
There is no real reason to fight, because there isn’t anything to lose! Each team squares off because the Reds are standing at the other end of the map like dopes looking back at you! Why do you engage the enemy? Cbills? Match Score? How about to earn near useless XP to grind up yet another mech? What do you lose if you don’t fight? What is lost if you lose a match? Not a damn thing right? Don’t give me that lame “I waste my time if I don’t win” crap either. If your time is so frigging valuable then why are you wasting on a video game??
You can’t have an End game without Motivation. You can’t have Cause without risk of loss. You can’t have loss in this game because everyone is going to lose their minds and cry like F’ing 2 year olds… Look at the Clam Wolf Wornhorn insanity.
The game, as much as I hate to admit it, is shallow as hell. If there was a real sense of the on-going struggle between the Great Houses and Clan, maybe then the “End Game” would still only result in a “Faction win” with one side wiping the other factions out in Planetside style. After said faction win, just like now in current FP, it resets and you start all over again.
This is where the argument turns into a FP vs QP thing all over again. I’m only saying this one thing about this topic:
Quick pay shouldn’t exist (and I spend 80% of my game time in QP). QP was a mistake that drove the game in the wrong direction. It should have only been a Faction based game from the get go, in which Scouting would have filled the role of the quick, small team game for those who couldn’t, wouldn’t, won’t do regular FP. In this instance, in a world without QP…. The End game starts to make sense doesn’t it? FP isn’t lore or canon, so it doesn’t matter who wins… but a faction win would actually be significant enough to play for, despite rewards remaining shallow and minor.
Now if you love QP and that’s all you live for, but still want an End Game…If it makes you feel better, think of it this way.
MWO QP End Game is MW5.
