MWO once was a real beauty.
The lighting, the shaders, the graphics detail on the mechs,
the weapon sounds (they are still very good now but i think there they was at its best),
the feel of the mechs heavyness, the special sound FX
and visual impact of an ammo explosion was epic (not sure if visible in this vid)
I find it kinda sad that this graphics quality isnt optional for players who have a rig
capable of handling it.I mean, its 2018.
only because some guys are still playing on 2010 potatoes (sorry but true)
this shoudnt be a reason to dump the entire game down.
I mean if you want to play PS4 games, your PS2 wont do the job!
guess what?
BUY A DAMN PS4 or play tekken 2 and the like,
I know this was brought at least 20 times in the past 6 years but i thought i bring this up
for the new players.

P.S. I really enjoy the game how it is, AAA quality of course.
But it hurts to see what this game meant to be in the first place graphics wise and
whats left of it.

gameplay starts at 3:33.the talk before that is mainly nonsense

here is an expample of the superb FX for ammo explosions back then.Giving and recieving.

Giving 2:20

Recieving 2:40

Would be neato to have the lighting and shaders back from before.

A nice mix of what we have now and what we had then would be good. The weapon effects of before and the swirling missiles combined with the mech textures of today that look much higher quality and the much lower amount of mechs just sorta teleporting when walking.

I like the Red Doritos are easier to read.
Wonder why that was removed.

The OP was less about stiffing potato computers and more about non-potato ones getting an option to get better graphics.

My '09 gaming/rebuilt-by-owner PC played MWO beta just fine, consistent 50-60fps with an old nVidia 560GTX card. It's very hard to believe anyone with a newer machine would be having trouble with the graphics side of MWO.

(FWIW, I've got an '07 Gateway desktop with an nVidia 260GTS card. It will still play MWO today, albeit with a lot of graphics lag and poor framerates.)

The weapons even sounded cooler back then. Why would they change that?

FPS is meaningless without knowing your monitor resolution and graphic setting. Hell, I'm getting that FPS on my 2009 machine but I'm running it at 1600x1200 with everything on Low or off.

I've no ordinary potato, I'll have you know, sir.
My twice baked, 3 cheese, butter, bacon, sour cream & chive potato is a master piece of potato art that's taken me threeish ehh four meh five years to complete and you will pay homage to its glory!!!

in all actuality though, MWO is the only 4-5 year old game that makes it chug a bit on med-high settings..

I dont think it's my potato's fault.

The particle effects.

The swarming missiles.

Atlas eyes.

Just cinematic feel of the environment.

Wish I could play that game. It looked pretty awesome.

If PGI asks me if I want the old improved graphics back at the expense of reducing the QP mode from 12v12 to 8v8, I would say yes without hesitation. Hell, even 8v8 alone is good enough for me.

I see downsides. I dunno if anyone are console gamers, but that pallet is 2006. Everything is brown, and hideous. There is an unrealistic and ugly lack of color. The mechs are black blocks, but I don't know if that's a result of people just coloring their mechs like that.

I liked the look of it back then. Yeah the colors are pretty dark but now at times it seems the exact opposite where in game colors seem washed out. Also the sound of the AC impacts....glorious. Guy playing states that it takes quite a bit of time to damage these big robots especially the big ones. If I remember correctly when beta first started all mechs had tabletop armor values(such low values don't translate well to a game where everyone can have pinpoint accuracy)....lol not only that but with repair and rearming fees made it to the point where people that lost their mech and the match made no money. Quickly devolved into timid pokefests trying to minimize damage received......even more than now.

So yeah I miss those graphics and sounds....but I don't really care for the rest and glad PGI changed it.

i dont know.the textures on the mechs was quite decent. It made them look more realistic imo.
