I have always wondered, and since I can't find any reference to this in the forum posts, I'll ask the dumb question - - -
Can you shoot down your own missiles?
Since friendly fire can damage your own, or another teammates mech, I was pondering if a mechs weapons can have an impact on missiles, both enemy or friendly.
Here are two scenario's:
A. you are piloting, let's say one of the new piranha's with 12 machine guns, and are targeted by incoming missiles. - Can you spray your MG fire at the incoming missile stream and take them out?
B. You are running any 'meta' build and fire some SRM's at an enemy, then immediately, lasers -
Will your lasers take out some of the SRM stream en-route to the enemy?
Not really sure how the 'friendly fire' mechanic works here.
Anyone have an answer to this?
Peace

As far as I know missiles are only affected by AMS systems.

You can only use AMS or L-AMS to shoot down missiles in MWO.
AMS is completely controlled entirely by the server and not by the player (all the player can do is toggle it on and off).

That's as far as the games, including the source game.
I have a video where it appears that I use MGs to shoot down missiles, but that's a matter of coincidence because as I shoot at the missiles, someone else's AMS is actually shooting them down but his particles weren't rendering, and I got hit detection because I had actually lobbed my own missiles just prior to the video clip's start. In other words it was coincidence and fake. (Can't recall which video though).
As far as fluff... An AMS is basically an MG on a turret with auto tracking capabilities. So fluff wise you could just shoot them.
So. That should answer it from all perspectives, this game, other games of the franchise, and finally the fluff. One complete comprehensive answer.
TL;DR: Nope (except in fluff.)

Great question Peace2U. As my colleagues previously stated AMS and LAMS alone can shoot down missles.

The only way to friendly fire your own missiles is to have a team mate stand in the path of your missiles and your targets. Dmg to them + no more missiles

Thanks to everyone for participating in this inquiry.
And special thanks to Koniving for the added detail.
I actually learned something. (better mark it on the calendar)

Bohixm had that happen today trying to hammer an advancing enemy with my Black Widow firing my Rocket Pod into a team mate as they retreated through my weapons fire.
Peace2U glad I could help but the Lion's share belongs to Koniving.
