I'm about to jump up to tier 3, and I'm not expecting a massive leap in quality (I guess that comes at 2\1) but I'm wondering if the games at higher levels become less diverse and more formulaic. Especially in some of the polar maps the matches end up being a dull standoff, I run a quad ac10 kodiak so like mixing it up a bit. Will the matches become dull poptarting the further I go, I've found the game at this level to be fairly easy but I think that's down to the potato factor. I'm also worried the slow torso twist on my kodiak will mean I can't spread damage well enough against better players.

Cheers guys

From my experience, at tier 3 you won't encounter much difference in 'how well the team deals with the map'. Dull poptarting will increase a bit, not a lot, as you run into a few more players who can manage it.

The primary difference is that you will start seeing more players who don't try to outstare your Kodiak, who twist off damage, who outmaneuver and backshoot your KDK, and who work together to drop enough damage on your KDK to make it feel like a medium.

I'm not saying you will encounter lots of these players, just more of them. Thus, positioning and making sure you have some form of support will become more important.

There honestly isn't much difference from Tier 3 to Tier 1/2. You'll encounter more people who actually know how to play well, but at the same time you're still going to be in potatoville with people who can't grasp the basics and have lost enough matches to still make it to Tier 1/2.

I have been T1 for over two years, and never had a long stand-off in Polar in Solo-Q. Nascaring is too real.

Tier 3 is the same as tier 4 only people are slightly more accurate and have higher alpha retardation.

Basically, once you hit T3, you enter the T1-T3 match pool. The biggest difference here is that games are a lot more predictable - There's less weird map movement (That does not mean there is more good map movement), less completely off the wall garbage builds (Still plenty of bad ones), just generally a more even experience.

Map voting also tends to get more predictable. Which is a shame.

Haha....no it wont come at 2\1.

Forget the tier system, dood. There is no tiers. You have completly new or inexperienced or just super bad players in Tier 1. In every match. Tier 1 means nothing.

I've found matches get more predictable in T1. People usually go to the same places in the same ways; less weird and random team movements on both sides. Less, not none mind you. Each side will typically have at least 3-4 players with decent builds and the ability to aim, so your mistakes are far more likely to be punished. Matches tend to be quicker, as players are more aggressive. Long stand offs are very rare, NASCAR very common.

I read the title and thought that you are quitting the game and this would be rant post.

Bombast is right. I'm a potato T2 and I don't see or have experienced anything "novel" or radically different at T2 playing T1's and other T2's..... Same game, same people (literally, the same players), same mechs, the SAME MAPS - over and over and over again.....etc.

Until a thread a few months ago I never had my tier displayed and I never looked at the progress. When I did, I was shocked to find that I was Tier 1. From my perspective (and stats) I knew I was a mediocre to poor player and I was fine with that. I know that for most of 2016 I was Tier 3, but I have no idea how long I have been T1. I'm still a mediocre to poor player regardless.

Point being that in all that time I never noticed any distinguishing change in game play. Solo queue or Group queue, its a variety of folks nascaring, or peak and pokeing, running off to do their own thing, and often all of these thing at once. So don't fear advancing in tiers, rather just assume that they are all pretty much the same...because they are.

Yeah, same here.

"I'm done with all these potatoes!"

"You're leaving MWO, can I has your things?"

"No, I'm moving up to tier 3!"

"LOL!"

quoted for truth. The biggest change is that the higher your Tier the more you are expected to carry the starches and that can lead to you not having a lot of fun because if you dont try hard you lose.

Yeah, depending on when you're playing the MM can really screw you bad unless you're in a mech that can carry and you have your try hard hat on.

Which reminds me, that'd make a good cockpit item; a hard hat with "TRY" emblazoned on it.

I just went from Teir 3 to Tier 2 and I noticed a difference in play. Matches are much more intense and players are generally more aggressive. As others have said there is less random movement everyone stays together moving to the same spots. That's the way I like to play so I'm enjoying the change.

The other thing that's interesting is that there is less random friendly chatter over voip. It's more business.

Plenty of potatoes still knocking about then even at higher tiers, that’s good to know haha. So I should basically expect more of the same in terms of quick play, hopefully being teamed with lrm boating assaults will stop!

Any recommendations for clan builds, I’ve got a fully skilled Timby warrant and KDK-3 already, I like ballistic weapons was thinking about The new mechs coming in or possibly a linebacker or shadowcat was told I need at least 3 or 4 fully skilled mechs before I could attempt faction play, thinking about giving it a go.

Cheers.

Haha I’ve hardly played this game to e honest I was so looking forward to it when it was announced that I signed up for the founder pack but I’ve only really just got into it so I’ve not experienced all the grief that the long term players seem to have faced. I hated this game when I first started years ago for a few sporadic games but I’m getting better now and enjoying it more.

If any of you are planning on quitting I’ll take any freebies 😂

T3 is T1 but with less LRM's, and a few more people that can shoot straight.

Very, very few people ever use situational awareness, even at T1 where there are some people that are so poor in this department, that I'm surprised that they can cross a road without being run over, unassisted.
