Probably a stoopid question but what happened with the hellspawn?
I don't think i've ever seen one used in anger! Was it a bit rubbish?

Sub-par at best with the exception of one variant that shows potential (not the base or hero variant).

IS mechs are generally bad without adequate quirks. Hellspawn did not receive adequate quirks.

It was just massively overhyped by a vocal part of the community, like all MW:4 originals of the IS. And like them, it is a decidedly mediocre unit added for fanservice only.
However I don't think the Hellspawn sold all that well, considering I barely saw it even in the first week of its release. I personally suspect that it was hyped by people who rarely if ever drive mediums.

And in the end, everybody loses. The (supposedly) many people who (supposedly) wanted the Hellspawn don't play it; people who did not want it don't play it, and a release was wasted.

Its ok with light engines its on a par with Enforcers or Blackjacks in damage potential but its extremely weak and is cored easily.. Its a shame really could have been an awesome little laser/missile boat..

Its a keep moving or you're dead kind of mech.. Not as bad as a Uziel though but not the best medium either.

If PGI actually made these things viable they'd be really good.. PGI was really really lazy with these modern IS mechs, i believe they are making them worse to support clan players.

Hellspawn has a few annoying features. I hate the lag time on flipping the torso missle bay open before you fire. Is there a toggle to keep this open? Much like artic wolf, agility not right on it. Very sluggish and I absolutely hate that it feels when moving full speed and using JJ, on landing it feels like you go back to 0 kph and have to build back up momentum. Really hate that. Hellspawn warhorn boss hoss though, arguably best in game.

Yes, there is a toggle for missile bay doors. Press f1 in game to find the exact key - I think it's ` or , or something.

Bear in mind that when your bay doors are open you take a small amount of extra damage to the location with the open door, so it's best to close them when you're finished with whatever you were doing Posted Image

Locations with doors receive less internal structure damage once the armor is gone, if the doors are left closed when the enemy weapons fire hits. Not to mention the fact the open doors increase the area of your hit boxes for that location.

I do not think open bay doors add to hitboxes. Open claws of Crab/King Crab however, do.

I like my Hellspawns. It's a 45 ton mech so it's going to be outmatched by most mechs in a straight up brawl, but if you keep moving, poke from cover to fire and retreat, then reset and repeat, you can be a nuisance. I normally use MRMs and medium lasers in them and I avoid any 1v1 confrontations unless I know I have the advantage (which is rare).

It's a mech that's quick enough to reposition itself several times during a match so you can fire until you're hot then move to another location while cooling down, and keep repeating. Two of my three Hellspawns are averaging over 300 damage per match (which is fine for me) and the third one only has poor numbers because I was using it to play around (badly) with stealth armour.

i hadn't seen one used for so long in was another wtf is that moment? did my gtx660 start dying? Google I command thee tell me of this new thing before me. It's pretty sad when you have to alt tab and google mechs because you hardly ever see them. Ones so rare you forget they actually are in the game like that FURY

Well, the Fury is rare because there is literally only one thing it can do that another Clan light couldn't do better- dual LLs and mass MGs- and it's a very questionable niche (it might almost be good if its E hardpoints weren't in the CT, because then it could do 2xHLL, but... nope). PGI chased Fury with the release of the MLX-G and ACH-E pods, which eliminated its uniqueness as the only 6xMG light almost as soon as it arrived... and with the Piranha on the field now, there's little if any reason to use it. Jenners aren't exactly known for their fantastic hitboxes, either; the whole chassis family is pretty rare apart from the occasional IIC or IS Oxide.

The Hellspawn is rare because there were already better 45-tonners, and its hitboxes are kinda bad. PGI gave its armor quirks to the wrong components (to the LT, which already benefits from the missile door for damage reduction, instead of to the RT which would actually make a pretty awesome shield side if it weren't so squishy), which compounded the hitbox issues. It's still not precisely awful, but it isn't great either. I still enjoy mine, because it's weird and fun, but there's no denying it's a challenge mode 'Mech, and that's enough to relegate it to the sidelines. It is not as bad as people make it out to be, though- it is still one of the quicker 45-ton mediums, it can still carry a very good offensive punch, and the one area it did win on geometry was in scaling. It's small enough that it doesn't catch fire the way that some of the other newtech IS machines (coughUzielcoughThanatos) do.

Doesn't bother me that much, really. The Phoenix Hawk was in the same position when it released (it was very easily disarmed and pretty squishy), but now sees a decent amount of use because it did eventually get requirked to cover its main weaknesses. The Vindicator isn't as bad as it used to be, either, ever since it got its durability buff. It might take some time, but the Hellspawn could still get the attention it needs. In the meantime, it's something to turn heads with on the scoreboard.
