Seems there is good reason to use private VOIP over the one built into this game.
However, I've heard little response to the reason I made this post - teamwork.
If you are using private VOIP, is there a way to create an 'open channel' so the rest of the team can keep abreast of tactical information?
Thanks again for not beating me up over this.
It's great to have some guys who are willing to share knowledge without looking down their nose at someone.

The sad fact is that, 9 times out of 10, communicating with the team at large is a waste of time, and it's not worth bothering to figure out when its the 1 special time.

This is the primary reasoning I am hearing.
Then we should certainly keep private VOIP in the game, for that reason.
However, addressing the primary issue of leaving some team players 'deaf' to in-game coordination and tactics lends me to recommend that private VOIP should be limited to only pre or post match interaction, and that only the in-game VOIP be used during a match so that all team members can both benefit from, and participate in the team tactics and communication.
I know I'm going to take some heat over this position, but please consider that my goal is to help encourage team unity.

"X is in the open" -LRM's will come a flying hard
"X behind wall stop wasting ammo" - Spuds MAY stop firing at target
"X is alone" - Squirrel mode engage
"X is open in Y"- Easy pickings got to kill secure
"X cherry red" - GOT TO KILL SECURE FASTER
"help" - Lulz
"Don't go under it's a death trap push up top" - HPG manifold specific and most will actually do it apart from that one guy.

In solo QP I often use VOIP to talk with the team, and if there are others who participate and people generally listen, matches usually turn out pretty good. using custom VOIP app feel quite pointless in this mode. So I'd rather see OP specify what exactly he has issues with.

Roe, I could not agree more with your comments.
By feeding the 'non private' players pertinent tactical information, you could swing the game towards a win.
And Dragon, I apologize if I was not clear on my point.
As a 'random' I have been in many matches where I would hear 'half' of a conversation. - This is how I'm aware that people were utilizing private communication, and I'm not really offended by that, however, I do take offense to players not sharing, or willing to receive tactical info because they are not using private comms. - This is what fly's in the face of the meaning of Team.
Look, guys (and Gals), I know you do not have to feel obligated to open communication among your teammates, and who knows if you'll ever play with that group again, but please think about the camaraderie among your 'short term' teammates (randoms) as you attack and defend together, as a unit. And all of the high-5's when you win a match together, and the 'we'll get em next time's' if you loose.
Kinda makes the game more fun. - Who would have thought, - game and fun at the same time - OUTRAGEOUS!

The only thing that I wish people would remember is that, if they are on a 3rd party comms solution with a part of the team, they should have a designated liaison to communicate what they are doing with the others who aren't privy to those comm channels. It does nobody any good to have a quarter of the team unable to contribute since they're ignored and left in the dark by the other three quarters, especially if the other team either is a full group or has their own large group actually taking the time to coordinate their additional players.

Yeah, i agree the team-speak just keeps everyone else on the dark.

You have to be precise with your comms though. '3 mechs incoming left side G3, mediums and lights' is a lot more useful than 'lots of them coming from the left'. The info doesn't have to be perfect, but adding in the right amount of detail and being clear and concise about what you are saying makes the info a lot more useful.

I have two push-to-talk buttons- one for private comms and one for in-game comms. For calls affecting the entire team, I use the MWO comms- generally just for quick stuff, like "alpha CT open" or "UAV (grid)." Game-relevant helpful stuff. Or, y'know, if someone makes a funny, or if someone's being so unbelievably dickish or incompetent that it just can't be allowed to pass without comment.
But, since I play with a fairly laid back group, we've often got a conversation going on in the background. It's be rude to clutter up the team VOIP with that... especially when it involves salty complaints about other players. Which is pretty often TBH. Better to vent in private than pick a fight most of the time.
Also, I use the private channel to make calls when I want my group-mates to know something that I don't want the rest of the team to know. Selfish, yeah, but let's face it- friends always come first. Sometimes one of my buddies really needs the kill, or we're hunting someone on the other team... or, worse, we ran into a sync drop and our team got a third of what was supposed to be the other team (IMO if you're unscrupulous enough to dodge the tonnage limit by sync-dropping, I'm not gonna trust you not to throw the match for your buddies on the red team).
Sometimes, I'm not even in the same game as whomever I'm talking to, and we're just shooting the breeze and/or comparing notes on the current event as we grind it in solo queue- and the team I'm playing with doesn't need to hear that either.
So, yeah. There are lots of reasons to keep using a private channel, and not all of them involve coordinating between matches.

This is what I like to see - the community getting together, sharing ideas and having a reasonable conversation.
No bad attitudes or "my way or the highway" reply's.
From the feedback, I think a fair solution would be to keep the private VOIP 'in match', but encourage those that use it to keep a channel open to the rest of the team to keep them appraised of tactical info.
Any other suggestions?
