I'm doing an educated guess here.. IIRC the production system is hosted by a hosting company that will probably have better connection to handle a game than the development studio. So I'd guess its going to be a better ping..
But how do you know about gameserver ping anyways?
shall i bring out the ceiling mech?

Probably referring to the collection of servers that run in tandem to deal with the load of all the clients. This kind of configuration is also effective for redundancy, so if one server dies, we keep playin!
Unless our computers decided to connect to the one that crashed...

As soon as they let us all in...
Who will be left to visit the forums? I'm here multiple times a day, that will definitely slow once the pending sign goes away. Just being honest...

Didn't think to ask that! I did ask once upon a time what hardware they were moving to, but that question didn't get picked in its 'ask the devs' round. They may well be colocating, depending on how big a server installation they need.

@russ_bullock This is very frustrating for whom is waiting for 12 rounds already. Knowing that a guy that just applied has the same chance.

Well the game studio is in canada and according to the comments it looks like they are running the beta server from that studio.
And europe seems to have much worse ping to anywhere in canada than the webserver that is in california. We can almost cut our ping by half if it was moved this way.
