How about, instead of messing with Gauss, we improve JJs so that the Highlander gets some of it's mobility back? While we are at it, can we address the fact that Mediums have better performing JJs than Light mechs, despite them being the same size and weight?

Oh for the sake of people that can't use Gauss.

Heres a small learners tip...bind all your unused weapon groups to Gauss, lets say u run dual Gauss ...and you have weapon groups 4,5,6 unused, bind them to your guass.

When you go to shoot, and your Gauss it ready, all them will turn green at the same time. This will give you both a Visual cue, and a audible cue to work shoot with.

Also, take 1 Gauss charge node, not 2 and both ammo nodes. Two is is actually too much and it'll end up annoying you since you can't let it discharge(usually waste ammo shooting at the ground).

You can still snap fire similar weapons, with PPCs. You can still use the Gauss Rifle, to great effect, if you bother to learn how to play with the charge mechanic.

What's the actual problem here?

I strongly dislike it, and own several Highlanders, but I've also learned how to play with the charge mechanic. It takes a bit of practice, and thankfully, now, you don't even have to practice it exclusively in live matches, like you did back when the original charge mechanic was implemented. You can go play in the Academy to practice it.

Wha's the actual problem here?

Gauss charge is so easy to get used to. Thats the last thing that annoys me.

TTK and consisent sniper weapon nerfs (insane beam durations of long range lasers, cooldown nerfs of ppcs, gauss ppc nerfs) which has significantly reduced effectiveness of sniper builds. In pug nascar games its really bad. I perform three times as good in skirmisher and brawler builds with not even half the concentration I need for sniping. So easy to win stats and do 1k + dmg in those builds.

Sniping? Considerably harder while also more difficult to do effectively with the nascar style. Which is why i would only join group que if that was possible. But you are forced to play in puggerland if you dont always play with friends. Kind of a shame. You are forced into the QP nascar style where sniping is bad.

They nerfed sniping hard again and again based on how strong and common it was (e.g. with (CER) ppcs) in compplay. But in nööbish puglands its a whole other story. Its so much weaker there that now its competly imba. Even the TTK alone made sniping harder. Now with the cooldown nerfs again and again + QP scenarios?

Pfff.....

And ppl still say how to make TTK longer. What kinda game you wanne play. Where mechs shoot at each other for like 2,5 hours face tanking each other.

How lame is that. How boring. How dull and brainless.

To devs:

I am on the phone, winning stats, half asleep, just running to end of team reds nascar and masscaring those that dont understand nascar. So easy. Not even a lot fun. Well.....killing mechs is always kinda fun. But its a reduced form of fun.

To devs Nr 2:

Try to do that, try to perform as good as easily in snping and long range builds. Try it out. See how complelty imba it is and how hardcore you completly over nerfed formerly good, strong sniper weapons. Its brawlwarrior or mindless lrm warrior. When I see how they exchange long range ppcs fire in compplay I get wet dreams seriously. That looks so much more fun. So much more.

God i dislike QP atm so much. Its soooo repetitive.

It is an unwanted and untolerated mechanic. Git gud comments are not applicable. I'll shelve it. DGAF. I'll reiterate. Punish the linkers. I use one I don't need to be punished.

I would not say that, I think its about 50/50. The only drawback gauss has is the Charge, without it it becomes devastating weapon at all ranges. You say you just use one, so you run around with just a single gauss and no other weapons?

Just up the ghost heat levels to absoutely ridiculous levels. Yes, some would try poptarting again once you rid of the charge but going gonzo and adding like and extra 30 heat to the ghost heat for the combo should be more than enough to stop it.

Simplest way to remove Gauss charge and keep it balanced is to make it so you can fire only one Gauss at a time or one Gauss + one PPC at a time, and tweak the JJs so that it will retain 50% of the shake once cut off, and increase JJ boost. As bonus, jump brawling will be back, without the plague of jump sniping.

+1

Ive been saying this for some time:

Solve the boating at the Weapon Group level. Hard 1 second before firing the next group.

The charge-up is half the fun of using the weapon.

Get outta here with your desires for a homogeneous snore-fest.

How about a compromise.

Keep the charge-up, but allow it to hold the charge until the round is fired, then it needs to charge again before you can fire another round, but again, it'll hold the charge.

While the charge is held, the weapon is vulnerable to crit explosions. While it is not charged, it is not vulnerable to crit explosions. I'd also say double the crit damage.

This would allow people the instant-fire they want while still maintaining the charge mechanic to a degree so you can't just fire again as soon as the cooldown is over. It'd also make running around with a charged gauss risky because of the crit chance.

I agree remove the charge but only allow one fire at a time.. Seems the only way to be sure.

Also add the Gauss Mechanic to LRMs instead then it would take real skill to use them imo.

SHELVED. PERIOD. DOT.
Due to charge up punishment. (Mechanic)
When I did use was 1 gauss 5mlas on ctf-1x or my AS7-D 1 Gauss 4mlas 2ALRM15. Neither needed to be punished.

Not TOO unreasonable...mull it over.

Not for nothing. You can't balance 1 linked Gauss. Because YOU'RE doing it wrong. How would you handle a 3x Gauss ThunderHawk. Or the Devastator which has lore linked 2ppc2gauss?! You're doing it wrong. End of story. Go to the convergence thread.

Hell, how about making it so that Gauss requires a "charge-up" of the barrels, and then it's click to shoot? Give it a separate key for toggling, like ECM. Something like if toggled off it can't fire, but doesn't crit as much, and toggled on it can fire and is in more danger of critting.

The way chargeup is being used is wrong.

Chargeup should only be used for weapons that have variable charge levels

Like a PPC capacitor would be a perfect use of the chargeup mechanic. Fire it uncharged or charge it up for 5 extra damage.

chargeup is only ever a downside for gauss. so its not really "fun". its just punitive.

but if gauss had a variable charge level, like if it could snapfire for 8 damage or chargeup for 15 damage.

then chargeup would have more of a reason to exist

Chargeup has no reason to live.

PPC capacitor. This may have merit.
