I guess, thanks for trying but...

Atlas 5E 2B and 2M which is one more energy point than an AS7 D,
Griffin 4E 2M which is the same as the GRF 1S so nothing new
Rifleman 5E 3B one more energy and one less ballistic than a RFL 3C
Urbanmech 3E 2B one less ballistic than the UMR63
Firestarter 4B 4E so an Ember but with a worse hardpoint setup
Banshee 4E 2B 1M it is practically a BNC 3S but you can't strip the arms, bonus for hoverjets though
Maddog is good, I like what you did with CT lasers, to bad I don't want one.

You had a chance to do some really unique things but the AS7, GRF, RFL, UM, and FS9 are pretty much already available in some form.

The Banshee could have been a rather unique ride but the only thing it has is jump jets, the hardpoint setup is done better already and you can't strip the arms because that is where 4 of your weapons are.

On the positive side, $30 for 7 cBill boosted mechs is pretty great so thank you for that.

I guess, thanks fI'mnor trying but I know I'm looking a very nice gift horse in the mouth but many of this game's heroes are bad or mediocre.

When people ask me what heroes they should buy I cringe. I usually suggest getting an Omnimech hero so they can change out the parts that don't work for them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not interested in a purely pay to win scheme with heroes, but I am interested in some actually GOOD heroes. Thanks to a serious amount of power creep, the bar is set quite high and these guys just don't even reach it when they're on their toes.

Please consider inflating some hardpoints, moving some around and making these a solid investment.

EDIT:

After thought, this could have been a great opportunity to introduce a light hero for Innersphere that can take 6 - 12 ballistics. Even if would be an oversized Firestarter.

The issue is that they drew the mechs from a pool of models that were featured in Battletech books with Solaris Arena stories. So you can just go for the lore and the theme of what the new content is about, or just toss out stuff that's more meta and might compete with other heroes you're trying to sell. I totally get the decision they made and what was up with it.

I'm not rushing out to get it either. For newer players or players that really want to support the game, the featured heroes and content are a good deal.

The hardpoints are pretty lame, but note that the Urbanmech hero has a max engine of 210 instead of the usual 180. It can go 113.4 kph. It can go as fast as a Mist Lynx.

Take a look at the Urbie first, 210 engine rating, 6 Jump Jets. I get that it's just 1 less energy-hardpoint as with R60L or 1 less ballistic hardpoint as R63, but look a bit more closer.

I agree, they could have made things a lot more interesting, like Ballistic Hardpoints in each side-torso of the Atlas, ballistic hardpoint at the side-torso of Griffin, Energy torso of the Mad-Dog.

But I think they are meant to be side-grade.

An odd change for sure.

Gotta laugh at the other thread praising it... I didn't see anything really of value there either TBH. Maybe 1-2 to "Sell" the pack with the rest absolutely bottom of the bin.

I completely agree with OP assessment that the Mad Dog is the only one worth getting from the lot.

Seeing a new Atlas hero, I was kind of hopeful we would get a unique variant (perhaps even one with 2 ballistic torsos). Sadly though, it seems the most anemic of all Atlas variants - as OP said, its just like AS7-D, with one extra energy and one less ballistic... they could have at least given it MASC capability to make it somewhat more unique.

I understand the problem with power creep but can we get more mechs with more than 6 hardpoints and fewer with less than 6?

I didn't know they pulled these loadouts from lore sources but that doesn't help matters when they have established they will inflate hardpoints. Put the lore loadout on it but also give it an extra M or E or B or two to make it actually worth driving.

I personally can't imagine myself buying this pack, I'd rather get a Fafnir, PIR, and Blood Asp pack, at least then I know I would be getting a few variants that I would enjoy.

They need to update all the existing mechs with 6 hardpoints or fewer first.

Like the Spider... 3E is so obsolete nowadays. It needs 6E just to be minimally viable.

That's why power creep exists: it's hard to make and sell sidegrades and you'll run of options sooner or later.

But then their sales are as weak as the heroes themselves. If PGI wants to do better they would do well to buff up heroes and underperforming mechs with more hardpoints and make them attractive enough to buy.

It does no one any good releasing subpar mechs and keeping certain mechs subpar.

Hey i really like the Books and Lore in General, but these Mechs are so mediocre that i have no incentive to buy these, even at the good Prize Point, they should do atleast something unique, for Example as already mentioned Atlas with a Ballistic in each Sidetorso would have been nice!

what choice do they have

powercreep has become unsustainable

all they can do is start releasing bad mechs again

so they can start the powercreep all over

Except PGI wants you to buy Fafnir pack, for a 100 ton mobile dual HGR mech. Posted Image

They are mixing good alternatives/slightly P2W (deathstrike/ black widow/ old jenner oxide/ sleipnir/ scorch/ bounty hunter/ old spirit bear/ redline/ URBANMECH K9 etc.) with trash heroes (pretty baby, anansi, dark death - so many) since the game exists, so it isn't too obvious that they rely on selling their good ones.

Mad Dog looks interesting, but its the quirks that make Mad Dogs good. And even if they are MDD Prime level quirks, $30 is too much for one mech.

Anyway, If PGI starts to include quirk info in the announcements chances are they'd sell more.

I'll agree these mechs look pretty "meh", but the price point works for me since I was looking to buy Hero versions of the Rifleman, Banshee, and Mad Dog anyway.

I wonder why they only added one clan mech.. Yes i'm not a fan of Clan overpower but i am a fan of equal for all.. should their have been 50/50 on the mechs..
