So you shoot down this guy's entirely reasonable request to implement something in-client that third party programs can do
And then you demand something that would require an engine rewrite and frame it as a more reasonable request?
Absurd

I suggest left click for tag and re-hotkey other weapon groups to some better KB spots and youll find you dont have to move your hand or think about it as you play. The default keybinds in most games suck and this one is no exception.

This is all well and good but it's no reason not to include a toggle function so that pressing the TAG button toggles it on and off.
There is zero reason to force people to hold down a button
And for me personally, my tendon pain makes such a thing very uncomfortable

Man I was upset about NO VR support yet or maybe a game engine upgrade to Unreal now that MW5 is using that but you know what your right dude F the 500+ dollars I have wasted on this POS game and screw my 100 plus Mech's I have tweaked and cared for over the past 5 years or so......NO TAG TOGGLE is the final straw!

In general, support the game if you enjoy the current gameplay (which has always been the same and always will be) and don't support it if you don't.
Pretty sure AMS toggle default is `~
I remember seeing it when I changed my push to talk to `~
You want to complain about features? How about the barebones friends list and chat interface with multiple bugs?
You join a group and it may not even show you what mechs others are taking so you can't tell if you're making them over tonnage or not. Sometimes it just switches back to quickplay when you're doing faction drops. Sometimes you know someone is online but they don't show up on your friends list and one of you needs to restart MWO to resolve it. Sometimes your group lobby wont start and you all have to leave and start up a new one.
Messaging people is a pain as they have to be paying attention to a tiny blinking button to notice they got a message. The same button blink is used by group messages, private messages, unit messages, faction messages and Innersphere or Clan messages. So if someone hasn't turned off all those then their button is blinking all the time and unless they specifically open their friends list they wont know you've messaged them.
Why is the mechlab setup like the mech is facing towards you instead of away from you, so your right shoulder is on the left and the left shoulder is on the right?
Forget tag lasers, there are thousands of quality of life improvements that they could have made over the years to benefit their game.

How dare you make a topic about a quality-of-life improvement that doesn't apply to me! Instead, let's focus on these other quality-of-life improvements that do!
I mean really the lack of self-awareness is astonishing

Well I find it hard to believe anyone is actually writing that. Considering nobody ******* uses TAG unless they're boating LRMs themselves, and even then I don't often see it.

actually you can enable multi-threading by editing the .cfg file
there used to be a forum topic for how to do it
its sad that PGI doesnt have it in there by default

With how popular FFA/Battle Royale is in games right now its got to be added. I mean seriously.
PUBG almost got game of the year last year because it was the only super popular game put out in 2017. It had one mode and one map and more players than every other game combined. FFA/Battle Royale is off the charts popular. Fortnite just added FFA and dropped all other development so the players say.
So anyway relax a lot happening with Mechwarrior Online and Battletech right now and that's great.
By the way when the maker of PUBG was asked game of the year questions he couldn't believe his game was in the running. It was just the only game put out in 2017 that didn't suck. Of course they had to give game of the year to other games with 1 thousand times the budget but its a fun story.

But OP is more than right with his complain.
It should be so simple to program a TAG toggle if the players asked for it.
I myself waited so long for the use of the mouse wheel. I never understood where the problem is/was.
And it realy made me enjoy MWO much more and in result I left more money in this game than I planed to do.
PGI very often realy gives you the feeling they don’t care for your (smallest) needs/wishes.
As a result they get a little less cash.
At the moment I am quite fine with MWO but there is so much space for fine tuning for PGI.
Xetelin mentioned some and I know some more.
Nothin ground shaking to program but desperately waited for.
So, OP you are right!
Have fun.

The reason PUBG and Fortnite are popular isn't just because they're FFA, it's because you have to move around the map, scavenge things and so on. They're popular because every game is different and an adventure in itself.
Solaris FFA will only have part of that appeal, IMO. I also think it'll be extremely newbie-unfriendly, for a variety of reasons, so it'll probably end up as one of the least played modes overall.
It's good to have a new game mode, but I'd rather have that in QP/FP than in yet another niche aspect of the game only 20% or so of players will actually play regularly.

I'm suggesting not demanding.
Also optimization is important for any game, poor optimization makes people quit, those are potential customers.
A toggle tagger may be neat to some but isn't important in the least since like you said you can solve that issue with 3rd party software anyways.
