Only got to play a few matches, but not impressed thus far. It is not agile enough for its speed. It really needed numbers closer to the Linebacker to make it really able survive.

This mech adds very little to the game imo. I still like my StormCrow better.

They never said it was Nova sized...

She's pretty clearly Bushwacker sized... if anything I think she's a little smaller... at least from the side, and her legs are thinner too...

Now when everyone was asking the Black Lanners size what mech did I say it would be? Yep, the Bushwacker.

It's a fine mech. I don't like pigeons that can shoot back anyways!

After watching Proton play it, I'm excited to try it out. Seems a lot of fun. Has the staying power of a 55 tonner, but can dip out in a hurry if things start to get hairy.

Where'd you see him play it?

EDIT: Hmm, nvm, I should probably just check twitch

Its the worst clan mech i've ever used.. little weapons and terrible heat issues.. basically a 55 ton light mech with very few options.

Don't buy you've been warned.

hit and fade works ok, but not tough in a brawl.

I got mine from the NGNG stream. I tried it out a few times. At most you have like 12.5 tons to play with, maybe, with careful armor shaving. It's not a lot to mess around with especially when you consider you only have the base 10 Double Heat sinks. That's it.

Bear_Cl4w and Proton both had routine matches testing the mech in quick drops resulting in 600+ damage matches going up to over 1k. Very skilled players CAN get results from this mech. But that's the issue. In my personal case, I have spent over a year and a half playing mechs with a speed of 97kph or slower, but with a good assortment of weapons. That is a LONG time for that kind of practice for a certain mech speed scale. I suck in the Black Lanner. I don't have the muscle memory for its speed, and I don't have MASC as a natural reflex for starts / stops at all points of the game to make it as nimble as it should be.

The mech doesn't suck but it WILL demand your having to learn how to play it well. A lot of players probably won't have that kind of patience.

You can see where they got the inspiration, clearly. I mean, it even looks like it's on Polar Highlands, outrunning yet another artillery strike.

I don't follow...it has MASC...which makes it basically insta accel/decel. Just gotta be liberal with it.
MASC on even the EXE make it accel like a bat outta hell.

It has the same accel as the shadowcat and a little bit worse decel.

The Lanner is in the same family as the Executioner, the Linebacker, and the Ice Ferret. The EXE has the same base agility as the Maddog. The Linebacker's acceleration is better than 3 35 tonners. Ice Ferret is as nimble as the Javelin and the Piranha.
The Lanner with its tiny amount of weight left for weapons got the agility of a Shadowcat (which is not that agile for a 45t mech). And if you aren't going to give it great agility, then buff the hell out of the armor. Personally, I would prefer more superfast agile mechs to balance out the armor slugfest that the game is becoming.

If you want to look at the numbers, see: https://docs.google....fG2IUSJFS_3FRQ/

There IS the odd chance that later in this game's life (however much longer that will be) PGI might 'shake things up' in an effort to make the game feel fresher by changing the rules with mechs. One of these might possibly be allowing Omnimechs to change engine size and type as well as equipment in limited circumstances. If enough players want to see something happen and it could lead to more sales, don't count it out.

At that point the Black Lanner and other Omnis might become FAR more attractive, even if it meant locking the pods so it's a Battlemech forever.

Thats a pretty big if for a waste of nearly $50 AU... thats almost a full new game right there.. Again my fault i'll need to be more cautious in the future after this and the Piranhas where 70% of those were trash too..

Almost every one of the last half dozen or so mech packs has been pretty crap. PGI are getting away with it thanks to an avid fan base but it's slowly falling away as fewer and fewer people are buying every mech packs no matter what.

I have killed so many today that keep getting caught out of position because they run into stuff and cant get themselves out of the situation. All it needs is better turning and better torso twist.

So it's fast enough to get into trouble, not enough firepower to get out of trouble. Sounds legit. :)

I'm finding that it's not a front-line mech. I'm more or less running with the lights, picking off stragglers and trying to lure people out of position to duel down. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I've been getting a few kills, 500-600 ballpark damage (without airstrikes) so far. I wouldn't agree with the statement DOA, but probably not something I plan to run often once I get it skilled up.
