The Thanatos 5P has 15% ballistic cooldown, more torso armor than the Orion, Jump Jets, and ECM.

Finally it doesn't suck :).

The Orion is tough to. That Thanatos has to be a real tank.

The Orion is the mini Atlas, I guess the Thanatos is the mini Anni.

It has armor comparable to unquirked 85-90 ton assaults. Less structure though, but oh well, cant have it all.
Basically it is now doing a better job than Stalker 3FB as mrm carrier.

I am glad it turned out this way, but PGIplese, novacats deserve some love too.

Only love it will get is tough love As how dare it be a good laser vomit that is not effected much by ghost heat, it will be beaten until it's mediocre soon enough .

Sounds good.

I imagine it's still not exactly a front line mech, since it's still a barn and still had easy to isolate torso locations, but the armor boost should give it the resistance it needs to take some fire and actually do some work.

More armor than an Orion? My ON1-V's got 125 front CT armor after survival nodes. The thing's ridiculous. AC/20, MRM20, 2 MRM10s and 2 MLs for backup. The thing's incredible.

Wish the Nightstar was this tanky. I might have to try the Thantos.

Hmm, looks like I'll be dusting of my Thanatos' :) Haven't played with any of them since around release time.

I always did pretty well in my 4S double Heavy PPC poptarter with SRM6 backup weapons. The extra torso speed really helped. I'm excited to play it with the extra armor!

I guess I'll have to take mine out again. Maybe the Deadside build from the Standard pack will actually work better now, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Been playing all mine again, definitely a good improvement. They only added armor onto the ct and the torsos. Still better then a poke in the eye with a stick, can't wait to have these skilled with armor quirks and see how they preform.

Why did the 5P get so much more armor than the other variants? Just a PGI dart board decision?

Because of its hard points (number and locations). Everything else either have nice highmounts in the Torsos for important weapons (energy or Ballistics) or has enough of a single hardpoint type that location doesn't matter.

Yeah I asked, then I went in game and tried to actually find a build for it. The extra immediately made sense. The combination of hardpoints and their locations makes it really awkward.

I ended up with a 3 ERLL + Light Gauss sniper, LFE300. Nothing else but MRMs really fits properly, but I already have those on the 5T. I'd run it but my gaming laptop is currently down, and I don't MWO on potatoes.

I went back and looked at the mechs in the Standard pack, and I just can't find a reason to ever want to play these garbagecans even if they're not squishy anymore. I'll wait until the one with ballistic STs is on sale for C-Bills and just play that.

I found 3 SRM6s, 1 LB-10, and 3 ERMLs to be really fun and moderately effective before the armor buff. I might try to play around with the newly buffed Streaks on it instead, replacing the LB with a RAC/5 or somthing.

I wish it had armor quirks on the legs instead of the torsos. Can't remember any non-light of mine that got legged so often
