It's probably just because the Lanner was recently released. Even if it's not exactly meta, a fair few people will be running them for the event bonuses and because it was a popular mech with a section of the fanbase. Add that to the players that were already running mediums and you get a big uptick. Assaults are also not quite as commonplace due to their poor maneuverability in a world where the Piranha can sneak in and ruin all hopes of having fun. Once both of those calm down a bit, you'll likely see things settle back out.

Mediums Are a staple of lore To&E. So while rare(in mwo)'This is as it should be.
